Short answer, politicization California is seen as a hub of liberal activity, and thus often times gets brought up when bad things happen there, as a indication of the ineffectiveness of liberal policies. The same things happens to Midwestern states, I believe people refer to them as fly-over-states. When I was (10) I heard that everything was politicized, but it's crazy to see how sex, video games, natural disasters, and espionage are now fair game. --- Kill anyone who gets in the way...
