He played NBA star Karl Malone and had make up to make his skin the correct color. He had Malone's permission to portray him. Actual blackface is done with fully black make up, not brown, and lighter make up is used to make other features, such as lips, stand out more as a means to make the wearer look clownish to sort of dehumanize people of African descent.
