| Topic | I support the death penalty, but... |
| Funkydog 05/21/18 12:50:09 PM #12: | Death penalty doesn't do anything other than serve as a means of revenge. Perhaps some may feel justified in some cases (Horrific sexual abuse, torture, murder etc) but I am not sure we should have our justice system based on such things. It should simply be about ensuring they actually face the consequences of their actions (with lengthy, to permanent jail time) as I am not sure that committing "state sanctioned murder" really does that. It is just another end. And in some cases, you are giving them what they want. Terrorists want to die for a cause and become martyrs for example - we shouldn't want to give them what they desire and making sure they spend the rest of their life behind prison is better than letting them become another figure head for a depraved movement. You also have the fact that innocent people could fall prey to it, which I am not sure is worth anything. Even more so with the fact the death penalty isn't even a deterrent and costs far more than simply jailing them. --- ... Copied to Clipboard! |
