It's clearly the wife's fault here. Maybe you should do your due diligence and actually properly look into such things yourself before blindly agreeing with your 7 year old kid who's clearly acting out over being disciplined. It's unclear from the scenario presented on just how far she took this belief and therefore it would be unclear to me whether or not I would "forgive" it, but if it's leading to divorce anyway I'm guessing it was far enough.

The kid's just being a brat and probably isn't even able to consider the long-term consequences of saying such a thing. I wouldn't even refer to this incident as the kid "causing" the divorce. There were clearly underlying trust issues going on already if this was all it took to topple the relationship.
