I thought both DID get a lot of hate? I remember seeing the Lion King being very divisive and some people completely trashing it, and some people (like my girlfriend) loving it.
I also never saw anybody say anything positive about the Mulan remake.

Both received criticism to be sure, but neither trailer got anywhere near the hate as the Little Mermaid trailer did. For some reason.

Same thing that's upsetting about white Tiana. If you're gonna give us the same character with the same name, then give us the same character with the same name. This applies more if the character is the main, and even more depending on the character's iconic status.

Remakes are allowed to switch things up. I also have my doubts grown ass men care this much about Ariel in general. She's well liked, but typically never the "favorite" among the group that's whining the loudest.

Though personally I would think the personality of the character was more important than their skin color.

Especially since Disney's Little Mermaid already deviated from the original story. Hell, "Ariel" didn't even have a name. That was some bullshit Disney invented. For some reason, no one objected to this change to the story.

But this is where you claim "People aren't nostalgic for the original!".
