Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe zords weren't formally introduced until Zyuranger Toei Spider-Man is where the giant mecha trope for Sentai originated. But Sentai would get its first mecha in the third series, Battle Fever J, but it was just a single mech. I forget the specifics but the first combining mecha came a little while after. Zyuranger is interesting though because the production values of Daizyujin are so far and beyond anything that came before it in terms of both quality and complexity.
