Lawns were invented by British aristocrats to show off that they could pay a bunch of workers specifically to maintain land in an entirely unproductive state. They're ecological deserts that require tons of labor to maintain, and the damned lawn maintenance companies always park their trucks in the damned street and make it everyone else's problem. If I'm going to do work to maintain something, it's going to be useful. And/or pretty.
