Nothing wrong with mysql, but what backend host you trying to use? Most use postgresql nowadays like Vercel

Was thinking of starting off cheap and easy and just throwing it up on a $5 Linode, haven't worked with postgresql before so might start out with mysql. Can always have the fun of a refactor down the line if need be!

Sounds good! Thinking VueJS + Tailwind for the frontend and mysql.
Although DBs are where I am most unfamiliar so if you have a different one you're used to working with could go with that.

My plan for the weekend is to try to throw together a retro forum frontend and see how far that gets. Should be able to recreate the classic GFaqs look with added mobile support (my day job is apps these days so I feel like I can't skip that part!)

Won't be using it aside from testing unless this place goes down, and another backup may still be a better choice.

So sounds like the jist of it is Niantic is trying to save time/money on modeling new clothing so they dropped down to 1 base model with sliders instead of distinct models.

Ah man the b8train! Almost forgot about the site evolving into a more sprite focused site over time (I think GANON was one of the main sprite rippers) and I remember having some fun live-breaking the site with weird updates constantly and then tanking the value of the sprite-buying currency with a fake stock market. Good times.

I did pick up boardEight.com a while back and could probably throw together a message board system that looks and functions like classic GameFAQs without too much trouble if there was an interest in it. Was kind of thinking of throwing something like that together as a fun side project at some point just for nostalgia sake anyway.

I'm on the discord but never really use it. Might check it out a bit more if this place shuts down and there is a forum mode going.

But yeah, I may be giving them way too much credit. And as mentioned that all falls apart with one bad mod.

And going to take this topic as an opportunity to say: grab SS when it goes on deep sale and you probably won't regret it. The movement and combat together are the most fun I've had with the core gameplay of a game since Anthem.
Story is entertaining for the characters and the live service stuff doesn't really ruin anything until the plot at the end kind of stalls so they can finish it up with seasons (hopefully.)

SS is a blast to play at least, and aww yeah it survived long enough to get to season 1.

We had a Pokemon topic going for a while but looks like it finally purged, figured a general TCG topic might last a bit longer.

On the MTG font I picked up a box of Karlov Manor play boosters but haven't had a chance to get to them yet. What's the general consensus on play boosters so far? At a quick glance they pretty much just seem like set boosters.
On the Pokemon front I've been out of the loop since the 151 set. Thought I remembered hearing something about a shiny only set but that could have been a while ago at this point.

Have had it in my Steam cart for a few days and keep going back and forth on it. Seems like just about exactly what I feel like playing at the moment, but I already have so many other things in the backlog I could get to.

It's a Youtuber with like half a million subs, I don't think it's a stretch to believe that they get some harassing comments on youtube.

I don't know if I'd say it's some sort of targeted campaign, but DD just seems like the type of game that attracts that particular subset of gamers that love to be outraged by things and attack people that don't agree.

MTX definitely sounds like a DMC5 non-issue situation, think I'll wait for some performance patches though

Worked at a GameStop for a few years around '09, wasn't bad aside from the occasional person who would come in with a gigantic box of absolutely disgusting games and systems. Turned a few trade-ins away because the systems were just too gross and I refused to touch them.

Also screw anyone who lines up outside of a store before they open on a normal business day; show up before they open and you wait in your car. And for the love of god don't tap on the windows shout-asking why we won't let you in early. </decade late venting>
