the sidescroller was fine for a glorified newgrounds game. my big fear was that the proper game was going to end up also being a sidescroller with random turn-based battles, but the previews suggest that this is tip to toe suikoden 2.5

Have not read the topic. Will NOT read the topic. Just had to post. I finished Junon and holy shit this is actually the best Final Fantasy game ever made? Probably not, but even discounting nostalgia, it's an extremely impressive video game so far. Can't wait to finish and write a more detailed review. I haven't felt this way about a game in a long time

I had a terrible middle school/early years of high school experience. If I wasn't feeling completely alone and abandoned, I was being bullied. Instead of friends, I had video games and anime. And of course, my favorite video game was Chrono Trigger and my favorite anime was Dragon Ball Z.

I first remember seeing Dragon Ball on UPN or something on Saturday mornings, really early. I remember the very first episode I saw was during the time when Gohan was being trained by Piccollo and Goku was I guess having fun in the Home for Infinite Losers. I remember liking it but not knowing why I liked it.

Somehow it got its hooks in me, especially when it was picked up by Toonami. I remember I had seen the Namek arc multiple times, and then Toonami announced that it was finally going to start showing the Cell arc. I was so excited I had my dad record the episodes on VHS for me. He also kind of got into it too.

It wasn't until later that I made the connection that the first game my dad and I played "together" (Dragon Warrior) also had characters designed by the guy who did Dragon Ball.

Nowadays, I really don't think of Dragon Ball as being all that good of a manga/anime. But for a middle schooler who had pretty much only seen it and Sailor Moon, it was everything.

Now in the Junon area and still avoiding all other topics on this game... this could be the best Final Fantasy game? Ever?

G1-2 is pretty bad yeah. It's like a tutorial case just for investigation, which is... why?

As someone who only played the intro/demo at this point I change my mind. If you liked Remake you HAVE to play this asap, and it's maybe best on PS5 considering the haptics/interface

I love this game a lot but I've mellowed out in my old age and I think it's totally fine if it's not your thing.

If "party dynamic" as described in the original post is the only way you like your parties, you'll probably never enjoy the series. The comparison I make is that most rpg's nowadays are Fellowship of the Ring but Octopath Traveler is the Canterbury Tales. It works best if you imagine the characters sharing their individual journeys together rather than being on one grand journey together. I actually like that it's a different way of storytelling than most games these days.

That being said, the ending/epilogue to this game is much more of the whole "band comes together and banters" style and the payoff is pretty good.

Gameplay in XII Zodiac Age is generally regarding as having aged much better than most other Final Fantasys. Pretty common amongst lists nowadays to be in the top 5.

the consensus (so far) is that they're both really good

they are not faithful remakes, though they have the same general locations and story progression. they should be thought of as "companions" of the original and not necessarily new versions of the same game. I'll probably always prefer the original but I love the new games.

Most of the drama I've seen around it is people complaining about the reaction this is getting compared to when Pyra from Xenoblade 2 was revealed. "A double standard".

My answer to that is that Pyra was a gaudy hideous nightmare in a game already chock full of gaudy hideous nightmares.

I will say that if I found the headline myself, I would have had the context that the headline was on ESPN and therefore likely relevant to sports, and I think I'd have been a lot more likely to interpret the message correctly.

Dems needed to find a way to rise above this in the last four years. I said this when Biden was elected. This needed to be a transitional presidency during which the party built up a younger and more inspiring candidate.
