Huh, they're already announcing Digimon Survive's localization. Not much to go on now, but I'm already liking the theme song. Personally would like to see the series' horror element be cranked up a bit, with the promotional material suggesting a serious story and all.

Yeah because of the surprisingly late party additions, you're usually better off not going too overboard with rolling early on because it gets harder to roll the rare blades on a unit the less you have left in the pool. But I'd say there's no rush. There are enough free blades that correspond to their roles to be able to use them without the need for luck.

Like Wulfric, which is the core you get in the story during Uraya, where you battle the giant spider. Save that for the attacker focused person, and the lucky core crystal that you can get from salvaging near the gate in the beginning of Mor Ardain, give that to the tank focused person. And I wouldn't be too stingy with overdrives. They aren't as hard to get as they were long ago anyways. I have like 20 or something crazy, and I dunno what to do with em. And just look up what each story/side quest core crystals give you before you bind it to somebody. There's probably a topic for each core crystal on the xc2 board

Yeah, I havent rolled that much. Still using the free story blade on Rex, and I got two nice healers on Nia early on. And if overdrives arent that hard to come by, maybe I should move the tank blade I rolled on Nia to the new member.

Been really hooked on Xenoblade 2 lately. 60 hours in, and I haven't even touched the other two games I got yet...

That said, I did finish Bakemonogatari Volume 1. Nothing too elaborate, but it's pretty interesting that the writing style in this is pretty much the opposite of the no-nonsense Juuni Taisen. It's full of rambles, but they don't really feel drawn-out because of how they're written. Well, I guess this is Nisio's "usual" writing style, being an older, longer series and all.

Also sampled the short story anthology 15cm Between You and Me (Amazon JP: https://goo.gl/eqdYR3). The cover and title makes it seem like romance, but the first story (covered fully in the Amazon sample) turns out to be some mind-screw mystery. Pretty cool.

Lul so that's why you've been missing lately XD. It's probably too late for advice for the game, but make sure you unlock driver art to art cancel on every driver

Also how does Bakemonogatari novel compare to the anime?

Yup, already got that for everyone available by Chapter 5. Right now I'm trying to get some blades for the new party member.

As for Bakemonogatari, I haven't watched the anime yet, so I can't comment on that.

They've got a crap ton of Naruto openings and a lot of them good songs. At least one of them has to have good visuals.

I've seen the entire first series, don't really recall anything that was well rounded. Granted it's been a decade.

Hmm, for the first series, I remember liking the three middle OPs (from Sasuke Escape arc to Raiga arc) and one of the early EDs thats an animated black-white sketch.

For Shippuden OPs, I liked the first five or so, the two comedy OPs in the middle, and the very last one. Theres also that one ED song by supercell.

How far is the anime up to now, by the way?

Episode 41 of the sub aired recently, and the English dub (which is what I follow) is only a couple of episodes behind. Either way, it's more than 3/4 of the way done with the originally announced 51 episode run. The arc going now (at least in the dub) is when they're battling the Eye Of The Midnight Sun, including Yami vs. Licht.

Hmm, cool. I really liked the arc that comes up next and the mini-arc after that, so I might give it a watch when it starts. Heres hoping they dont mess up the big fight.

Huh, I got modded cuz the moderators thought BT was an illegal manga hosting site. When they usually act under fair use and can have their content taken down accordingly to law, they're not exactly legal, nor a manga hosting site but a Web/Light Novel host primarily. Technically fan translated manga isn't illegal either btw. Because the holder of rights don't own the cleaning, redrawing, and translating of mangas btw. It's an interpretation of a source material for non-profit. Hosts that profit from this profit from the service, that is hosting of various completely legal material protected by free use, are also not earning money illegally.

I think anime hosting websites are slightly different. That would depend on any ruling if there is ever a big court case about it that sets a definite precedence

Well... from what I know, unauthorized derivative works (translation included) that are made public actually arent protected, and fair use only applies to educational and criticism purposes, so it technically wouldnt fly even if its non-profit. The same generally goes for copyright laws in Japan as well (except Japan doesnt have an equivalent of fair use), from what I discussed with the people on BT.

So today I was re-reading some chapters of Kino LN Volume 6, and the prologue-epilogue story had a connection to the Country of Adults story, which made me realize that I made a little consistency mistake in the chapter's translation. Dammit...
(Fixed now, of course.)

Here's the Volume 6 chapters, if anyone's interested (epilogue comes chronologically before prologue but they're meant to be read in order). It's nothing much by itself, but it does give some more insight on the Country of Adults and Kino's old name.

Well, I finished Megalo Box. Was worried for a good part of it that itd end up being just a condensed version of Ashita no Joe, especially the ending, but Id say it turned out great in the end.

Argh jealous!!! I dunno if the subbed version is available yet. But it's by far my favorite anime of the season.

I don't think Ashita no Joe ended with a Yuri vs Joe equivalent fight anyways, did it? I thought it was like some dude who was just really really good at boxing.

Well, I was more worried about the ending being too close to the circumstances and drama surrounding Rikiishis death. In Joe, Rikiishi died from his injuries and health issues after fighting Joe way before the ending and Joe ended up dying fighting the world champion in the end.

Megalo Boxs gear-related shenanigans can more or less replicate those circumstances in a shorter time, and the final fight can play out as a condensed version of that ending, so to speak.

Yeah I guess the above average-ness of shounens is so commonplace now that it's become a new average in a sense. Hunter x Hunter still stands out to me amongst all the shounens because of the thought that went into everything and the insane gripping arcs and fights. You sorta never really know where the author's gonna take the story, compared to most shounens where more or less everything just leads to another big match up against some big guy and another big guy.

Eh, both Black Clover and Hero Academia are high-rankers in WSJ, so them being above average is pretty reasonable. Don't know about other shounens nowadays though, since I hardly read any manga.

Speaking of which, I'm also kinda interested in The Promised Neverland. Another high-ranker in WSJ, but doesn't look like a standard battle shounen and more like sci-fi/horror. I'm also a big fan of Pone's illustrations on Pixiv.

And Hunter x Hunter, I haven't caught up with it yet. The last volume I got was 25, and it's been so long that I don't think I remember much of it anymore.

So I read My Hero Academia up to the end of Volume 7. It's fun, I'd say. Another above-average action shounen that doesn't offer much of anything new, but with great presentation and fight scene art.

All Might is my favorite character so far, with the goofiness of his hero persona and how the story presents his imperfections. On the other hand, Bakugo so far has stood out to me as quite obnoxious, with him being in his "gimmick" angry personality 90% of the time without enough interesting qualities to offset it.

I haven't read it yet, but I guess I see it pretty frequently on people's worst anime of all time, usually talking about the main character's heavily inconsistent morality and being praised even though he might be like very wrong about some things? I dunno I staved off shounen long time ago

Eh, I mean, the manga is an above average (albeit mostly unoriginal early on) shounen from what I've read, so that's probably exaggerated. The anime's adaptation quality might have something to do with that.

As for Asta, he seems pretty consistent to me. Got a pretty heavy accent for his Japanese VA though, and that seems to be the only thing people talk about when it concerns the anime adaptation.

One other thing I like so far is that the series doesn't dwell on character flashbacks for too long. I don't think any of them lasted even a whole chapter at a time, and that's still plenty to get the important points across.

A bit lost on the story now though, since volume 10 starts out by "introducing" new characters that the main cast supposedly knows very well, and the story treats them as already-established characters, but they never actually appeared before in the series. Pretty weird.

Also borrowed the first 7 volumes of My Hero Academia, which I'll be reading after finishing Black Clover 12.

So I just got to watch the second Kino's Journey OVA, Byouki no Kuni -For You-. Kinda forgot that it's in the DVD that came with the Watashi no Kuni visual book.

The story isn't changed significantly from the LN chapter, so that's cool. Being a few minutes longer than a normal episode also helps with the pacing and getting in all of the important details and scenes.

Visually, there's some jarring background CG in two scenes, but the bike scenes in this episode are the best of all of Kino's anime adaptations so far. Kino's design is also a bit different from the 2003 series, being taller and looking slightly older (aka closer to descriptions in the LN).

The highlight for me is the ending theme song though. It might even be my favorite song from the entire Kino anime series.

So MHW is getting Lunastra. The last main game it appeared in was Freedom Unite, so I guess that's pretty cool.

He also did three of the Tokimeki Memorial dating sims, believe it or not.

Finally had some free time to go check out LN/manga stuff and got a great haul.

Koe no Katachi manga boxset (A steal at Thailands pricing. Converts to about $16), Kino Volumes 4&12, ImoSae Volumes 1&2, and Fate/Strange Fake Volumes 1-4. Thatll last me a while.

Pretty jealous. I'd read the ImoSae LNs if I could. Teach me Japanese!!!

Well, the English release of Volume 1 should already be out, I think. Dont know if its being sold digitally or not though.

Hmm, so the novel Miniskirt Space Pirates (aka Bodacious Space Pirates for its anime adaptation) got its first volume fan-translated.
I never got into the novels, but the anime series is pretty cool.
