I'm only giving out two 10's and this is one of them. It's not in my top 2 cases, but that's solely because the stakes for the overall plot are nonexistent and it doesn't hit as hard. But while the other case I'm giving a 10 to is maybe the most important case to all the characters and is just about perfect, this case is one of the least important cases to the characters..... and is absolutely perfect.

There's a good-sized cast filled with new characters, and all of them are really cool and unique to talk to; none of them are remotely like any other character in the series. Because of the scope of everything, it allows for a ton of misdirect to keep everyone guessing the entire time. Hell, going into the final trial day, there are TWO murderer twists still to pop up.

This is the best version of Pearl we ever get, Blackquill plays into everything wonderfully, and tons of stuff in this case is just CLASSIC Phoenix Wright. The cutscenes are great, including the songs, which are just adorable.

The villain transformation is the best in the series, and his motivations are totally believable. I can't hear the Allegro cross examination music for DD without thinking of "The Dissing of Phoenix Wright". Whereas a bunch of murder plots in the series are ridiculous for the sake of being ridiculous, this "murder" is a spur-of-the-moment thing that doesn't even end up that complicated, and it's just a matter of everything else getting convoluted by chance, and it foreshadows so much of it right in your face, which is fantastic. And the twists aren't even done by the time the trial is over, it still has the other aquarium to throw at you!

I love this case, and the more I talk about it, the more I can see me talking myself into it being my absolute favorite case, even above the grand finales.

I'm gonna change my vote a bit. I'm bumping it up to an 8.6 instead of a 7.9.

I think my subconscious tried to remove any trace of memory of that scene of little Athena smiling. That shit was insane. Also, I forgot how amazing Apollo's testimony is at the end. So a bit of a bump up from me.

Yeah, if there were more immediate repercussions on Lucio for what he did, then I think it would've landed better. Just one little change would've made a huge difference imo

I still enjoy case 5 slightly more than 4 I think. A lot of it is really messy and not fleshed out, but the Eris stuff was so god damn good that I can overlook the messy parts.

In retrospect, I suppose that goes along with how I feel about AA cases, too. I can overlook some low lows as long as it has really high highs. I like TC's case 5 better than case 4 for the same reason I like 1-5 better than 1-4.

Despite giving you the killer at the beginning, this case has some of the most misdirects in the series. Everything seems pretty cut and dry, but Filch throws a huge wrench into everything, and even motivations aren't as clear as they seem.

I think this might be the only time in the series where there's a logical conclusion you make in court, and when you get back to the investigation phase, it turns out it was completely wrong and have to start from scratch.

L'Belle is good, not great. Jinxie is adorbs, but Damian is the key to the case and he owns every scene he's in. He's so fucking cool.

It's fine as an intro. They really had to stretch with the dying message stuff, but the Apollo stuff is fairly neat and taking down the villain by calling his bluff is pretty satisfying.

It's really long-winded, but I love a lot of the main plot points about it.

• Courtney showing off her vulnerable side
• Will and Penny show up!
• Edgeworth's pep talk to Sebastian
• Sebastian's sprite of him sniffing away his last tears eyeing up his dad in court (would've worked better if he didn't go right back to crying, but eh)
• The twist villain
• Dare I say the greatest villain breakdown of all-time? And it's not even close???

That said, the whole side plot of intuiting that the kidnapping was actually a murder is soooooo fucking long and kills a lot of the momentum that the current-day murder has. This being the main reason I bumped this down to the 8's.

A decent bit longer? But not super long.

I'll go with RE4, while admitting that the argument presented for Pikmin 2 is compelling.

I've played through it and watched someone else play through it twice, and I still don't understand various key aspects of how the case played out and why certain things happened. Is this the most complicated murder in the series? I'd cast my vote for it.

Despite that, and the fact that it's like 14 hours long, I'm still gonna give it a really good score because all the world-building and character development and foreshadowing is incredible.

Let's say.... a 9.0/10

It's a shit resolution, but I still don't care because Dancing Sholmes is my favorite Sholmes moment and that's no small task.

Best intro case in the series, by far. Everyone involved in this case is spectacular, especially Knightley, and having the silly Lotta Hart disciple be a twist conspirator is super cool.

There's three standout moments to this case to me:

• Shih-na doing the Yew laugh
• Lang accusing Franziska of the murder to get back into the crime scene
• THE OTHER LANG MOMENT

This case single-handedly made me like Lang quite a bit. If not for him, this case would be nothing but fluff and last-minute saves from the bench warmers.

Also, a really fucking cool detail in this is that Sholmes never got funky with Mikotoba's dance of deduction like he does with Ryunosuke's. Because Mikotoba is his real partner and they just gel together that well as an investigative duo.

I watched a streamer play this game a few years ago, and her reaction to that moment was so good, I saved the clip in my bookmarks.

My answer is both, I guess. I would absolutely use it at home, just to save time. They'd also be really nice for road trips or going to events. But at work, having a nice little bathroom break to calm down and have a little me time can redeem an entire day.

That said, I'd definitely not poop around people. Surely the stink would get out there, even if briefly, and that'd be fucking horrible.

We should probably be careful answering that question with a full (finale) case left to go in the playthrough.

I despise this case. Get Calisto Yew out of my life forever. I think I said Lamiroir was my least favorite character in the series a few days ago, but that was because my mind tried to erase all memory I had of Yew i fucking hate it here lemme out

Haven't played any of the others that are similar.

Case 1 is my second-favorite. I gave it a 4.1.
