I've done this style of poll contest once before, back in either Gen VII or Gen VIII, so why not try it again now? The rules are simple: each day, I'm going to post a poll for a given Pokemon typing, with each generation's roster of new Pokemon filling in that typing. You just need to look at what each generation had to offer, and select which generation you think brought the best new roster (for any reason; you could say that a single Pokemon was so good that it overwhelms everything else the generation spawned, or you could select a generation that may be more well-rounded that the one that created your personal favorite). At the end of the day, one generation will be crowned a champion (with potential tiebreakers if need be), and that generation will advance to a second round, where the eighteen winners, and fourteen strongest runner-ups will be sorted into a 32-entrant tournament to crown which generation produced the best overall roster of a single typing.

The tournament has now begun. The discussion topic is here: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/8-gamefaqs-contests/80744044 and the bracket is here: https://www.bracketmaker.com/tlist.cfm?tid=478370

Today's match brings in another Gen IX wild card, although this one managed to look a lot strong in the preliminaries as the highest placing wild card seed. It's also the only remaining Dark-type after Gen II's complete dismissal. However, it faces strong competition in terms of Gen I Normal, although Normal itself proved to be one of the less enthusiastic days of the preliminary rounds. As such, this match-up could be a real coin flip.

Man, you guys make me sad. Yesterday's match almost ended with the first doubling of the contest (when even Gen VI Fairy avoided a doubling against Gen I Poison). I knew it was an uphill battle, but still, Gen IX Fighting deserved better, and Gen III Dragon secured a solid 27-14 win.

Today's match sees one of the big three thirty-vote blowout victories from the preliminaries in Gen III's dragon roster, going big after two generations of Dragons being rare and limited. Meanwhile, they're facing off against a wild card (and one of Gen IX's only two entries in the field of 32) as Gen IX Fighting--my personal favorite generation for Fighting-types--looks to stay alive and prove it deserved to win the Fighting-types overall.

Yesterday's match saw a handy win for Gen I Poison, but it still seems less than it could have been, facing off against Gen VI's Fairy wild card, yet not quite managing to score the kind of blowout this match-up should have warranted. Still, a 26-16 victory puts Gen I Poison into the Sweet Sixteen all the same.

Today features the roster with the biggest blowout of the preliminaries, percentage-wise, as Gen I Poison seeks to exploit one of its rare few type advantages against the progenitor or the Fairy-type in Gen VI. Once again, Mega Evolutions may play a big part in deciding this match-up, but can the underdog pull off a victory?

Gen V has had three matches in a row, with mixed results. This time, however, the sheer number of Pokemon on offer (to offset some of the duds) proved too much for Gen II Dark's admittedly-limited roster of six to overcome, as Gen V Fire wins in a 24-17 vote.

It wasn't until re-reading my write-up that I realized this: Beetlejuice takes a very similar baseline plot to Hellraiser and just does it so much better. Admittedly, Beetlejuice's opening is much longer than the quick scene of crazy shit happening in Hellraiser, but still. Supernatural shit starts happening in a house following the introductory character/s being killed, and then the next thing you know, you have a meek father, his daughter, and her redheaded stepmother moving in. The stepmother is unhappy with the situation she finds herself in, the stepfather just wants to have everything be normal, and the key difference is that the lead female is far more proactive in her involvement with the story...even before she winds up summoning unspeakable malevolence into the world.

It's just funny how similar they are, but the tone is so varying that one is my fourth favorite and the other is my fourth least-favorite on the list.

Today features our only Gen II roster to make the field by winning its type outright, or coming in second to secure a wild card position (Psychic just came up short of making the field.) It has its work cut out for it, however, as its relatively small roster faces off against the gargantuan (by comparison) Gen V Fire, both halves of which have already shown strength in this contest. Despite the seeding, this seems like it could be a David vs. Goliath story...but we'll just have to see how things turn out.

Yesterday's match saw a Ground-type roster lose to a Gen V squad, but this time the Ground-type roster IS the Gen V squad. Gen V Ground had to win a tiebreaker to secure this wild card spot, and now it faces Gen III Grass, which scored such a big blowout against its competition that no other Grass roster made the wild card field. Will Ground make up for yesterday's loss and establish dominance of Gen V, or will Gen III Grass come out of the gate strong to represent Hoenn?

Fright Night was a refreshing & meta take on vampire movies when it first came out, and still holds up pretty well today. It's somewhat of a parody but is also pretty damn scary, which is rare. Evil Ed reverting back from a wolf freaked me out as a kid, and Chris Sarandon plays the right blend of charming and sinister. Meanwhile Roddy McDowall's reluctant hero character is one the best 'good guys' in 80s horror.

Christine is one of King's worst stories in my opinion, or at least worst concepts. I'm all for 'cursed object' horror, but an evil car always seemed silly to me.

An evil car is like...the most reasonable and frightening cursed object possible. It's mobile on its own, and it's a multi-ton machine that kills people regularly when it's NOT cursed.

Yesterday's match saw Gen VI pick up its first big victory of the entire contest, with Gen VI Dragon finally winning a day in a decent showing against Gen IV Ice. Today, it seems like Gen VI is looking for a similar story as their Steel-type wild card of a plethora of Megas attempts to dethrone Gen I's Electric roster, including the franchise's mascot itself.

Gen VI wasn't able to win a single typing, yet here, Gen VI Dragon manages a solid victory over Gen IV Ice (eliminating Ice from the tournament entirely, as yesterday saw the same with Rock). It's not quite up to the votals of the first two days, but it still wasn't close in a 29-16 vote.
