I mean, if the opponent has some sort of forced switch mechanic or gets lucky with a status like freeze or paralysis early on, then yeah it goes down, but I see it in the same light as something like power herb xerneas, where you can completely blindside someone with it and just sweep from there.

Refresher please, I know that we can't offer a player something if we don't have the appropriate compensation, but what about multiple players when we have 1 of a draft pick? For instance, if I have 1 first, is it possible to make offers to 2 different players and only get 1? As a failsafe for if you get outbid by one RFAs team? Or are you limited to just 1 offer and if you get outbid then sucks to be you?

Last post in a row I promise, but I feel like this is especially understandable this expansion, because the issue here shattered has outlined isn't as much "I don't like when people are lazy and copy decks" but more "I don't like when people are lazy and copy decks and and it leads to the same deck more than 50% of the time (IE the current meta)" I kind of feel the same way, if the meta were more diverse, then "netdeckers" could go online and see, hey, there are like 8-10-whatever-number-makes-for-a-healthy-meta different decks that are all top tier right now, let's just pick the one that fits my style the best! Like that may not be to shattered's level of "I want to see different stuff" since archetypes would still be a thing, I don't know, but I would personally be fine with that.
Right now it's, hey, Jade Druid is THE best deck bar none, let's go with that! So in a more diverse meta, netdecking would seem to be a good thing because it encourages people to play more decks, but when it's jade druid and priest vs the world it becomes "Jade/Priest and anything that beats Jade/Priest." I don't think that's a healthy metagame, but it's not because of netdecking as a concept, it's just that netdecking in such a scenario just seems to make things worse.

I'm don't think I'm a spike, mostly. I forget which is which of the other 2 but I'm the guy that likes to do cool things, even if I lose. If I lose because I drew crappy, or like my arena rant before where I *****ed about 2 opponents in a row who I felt got extremely lucky, and I feel like I could have won or even should have, then yes I'll be salty. But if someone just flat out outplays me or I mess up myself then I'll take the loss gracefully (and unlike someone else here I am capable of admitting when I'm not the better player of the two). It's as trdl alluded to, I do have at least a slight competitive urge, because if I didn't then I would have no reason to get mad when I lose. I like winning, who doesn't? I try to find a balance between "jank" and "competitiveness" so that I can at least feel like I have a chance when going up against a "real" deck, and I refuse to give up until I find one. What I do know about my gaming personality is it doesn't make me feel "good" when I see people do actual netdecking, going online, seeing what the best deck is, and playing it, because as shattered said it feels like they didn't work for it, and even more so because said best deck is SO prevalent that it gets stale really fast. When your favorite deck is at a bad matchup against the best deck in the game, it feels bad facing it 50% of the time at the least. However, that does not mean I don't "get" why Spikes do that, because I do realize that everyone looks for their own thing in games. Some people want to do cool things, some people just want to win, and that's okay. Basically, my heart says "bad," but my head says "it's fine." Sigh... I wish I had the time to explain why netdecking is not bad at all but instead a necessary and positive force, because this is scrub-tier thinking. Alas, work beckons tomorrow morning and I need to cook. I'll try to get to this tomorrow.

EDIT: If you have no interest in actual competitive play, then I understand this a bit. Faffing about with silly meme decks is awesome; I love my Renounce Darkness list even though it's very bad. But if you have even the slightest competitive surge, netdecking is an important part of the game, especially for inexperienced players.

I was partly joking, it's a weird paradox I have a hard time resolving internally. I fully realize that there are inherently some combinations of cards that are just better than anything I could just cobble together looking at my collection and try to force it to work. That's just how it is on account of perfect balance being pretty much unattainable. However, I am with shattered in that I like seeing decks that are more unexpected and janky. It's hard for me personally to reconcile because I know that if I come up with an idea for a deck in this game, or any game really, then it likely already exists. And if I try to tweak it to my liking, it just won't be as good. My ultimate goal of making a perfectly unique deck that is also the best deck is unachievable, which is what I struggle with. I get mad when my jank deck doesn't do well even though I know it shouldn't do well. I don't know if it's more possible in mtg modern right now since I've been off the scene for who knows how long, but I had a R/G deck that used Wild Pair with 2 specific dragons and the rest was just mana ramp and burn, and it actually ran pretty well, and it felt good, because people who went to tourneys would be like "man that's actually pretty cool!" But in HS, the collection of cards isn't as large so it's much quicker before all the best strategies are put through the wringer and ironed out to perfection.

However, of course it is unreasonable for me to say "well netdecking shouldn't be allowed," because the fact is some people play just to win. It's not fair to take away someone's enjoyment just because it doesn't match my own enjoyment. I realize this, and I also realize that it's good for new players because even if they don't copy the exact deck, they can still get an idea of some good building blocks, as well as what sort of strategies they should be looking to utilize in the current meta. That's good!
