Idk if it was mentioned already but just saw a potential juror who was dismissed being interviewed(she said she would not be able to be impartial) and apparently she just became a US citizen in August then got called for jury duty and it happened to be for Trumps case lol

If I became a citizen and got jury duty a few months later Id want my money back

I know this would violate Trump's right to a fair trial, but maybe this trial should be one without a jury. Not only is it incredibly difficult to find someone without a set opinion of Trump, but if they're going to allow him and his allies to intimidate jurors, then Trump doesn't deserve a fair trial.

A bench trial is a thing where one would have a fair trial, but Trump would never agree to that.

From what I understand, the Senate was voting on whether to reject the impeachment articles from the House or accept them and hold a trial. They voted to reject both of them, while Republicans wanted to hold the trial. Then some moderate Republicans were at least signaling that they would vote against impeachment after the trial is held.

I always do mine right away, regardless of whether I have to pay or I'm getting a refund. I typically have to wait until mid February because that's when Etrade releases their documents, though.

I'm gonna take it in stages for right now. I'll likely move on to other tools once I feel like I've got what I can get out of Duolingo.

I've approached this by learning sentence structure first. Particles seems to need some practice.

Hiragana and reading is a bit secondary atm. Figure I'll learn naturally like a kid first wouldn with any language - speaking

Yeah, that's seems to be the way that Duolingo is approaching it, but there are certain parts of the lessons where they ask you to either write a character or they give you a part of a character and ask you to complete the rest.

I'd be fine if I just struggle through that and continue on, but the perfectionist in me wants to get all of those right, lol

Is Duolingo fun/effective? Was thinking about using it to learn languages also.

I'm doing well with it so far. I'm obviously pretty early on, so I'll have to see how well I progress over the next year or so. I have a friend who has been doing Duolingo for a couple years now and he says he can understand how to read and write pretty well in Japanese and can hold conversations.

If I do well with Japanese, I'll probably also do Spanish and Portugese.

Will you use it?

Once I get comfortable with basic phrases and conversation, I'll probably go to a restaurant and order in Japanese. Once I start getting almost fluent (or at least be able to have some basic conversations), I'm gonna take a vacation and go to Japan.

I'm about 9 or so days into lessons on Duolingo. I'm at the point where I feel like I need to understand how to at least all of the characters in hiragana, so I'm gonna start working on drilling through that separately.

Trumps not winning in November barring something insane happening. Even then, I doubt trump has a shot. Too many in his own base don't want him as president.

People don't realize how much smaller his base is today than it was November 2020.

I'm just hoping they don't just fall in line and vote for him in November any way. Seeing how much the GOP has turned the reigns over to Trump after... all this... Is worrying to me.

This trial is a real nail biter

if Trump gets convicted, it doesn't matter if he's sentenced to prison it's the end of his presidental ambitions as it will definitely help in getting him convicted in the other 3 criminal trials against him, Biden will win.

If Trump gets acquitted, he'll win as the narrative will immediately shift that Trump was right all along and these are sham trials designed to try and take him down as the media will definitely pump that narrative and the populace will believe it

If Trump gets a hung jury, no real change because a hung jury does not mean this case goes away, it simply means that it has to be retried.

I'm a bit worried about one of the jurors admitting they know some of the central park 5 being seated because that alone could give Trump's legal team a leg to stand on for appeal, which could result in an acquittal, I don't think right wing media homed in on this yet to start throwing rage fits and Trump hasn't complained about it on his dying website yet.

I think the one who said he knew some of the Central Park 5 was just a prospective juror and would likely be dismissed.

I was hoping the January 6th case would be the first to trial. Hopefully it will at least still happen before the election, but we'll see.

I rarely post on the NFL and NBA boards. So I might come back every once in a while to have discussions during the NFL and NBA seasons, but I definitely wouldn't be visiting daily any more.
