Now to watch the Constant, then never watch another LOST episode again, and not post on b8 for 2 years

Full disclosure I haven't watched this show in over a decade since I was like 21 so maybe I would view it differently re-watching in my 30s. Lots of movies hit different or I interpret differently in my old age...

Locke is frankly the character who got me into the show early on (Walkabout was really the ep that made me want to keep watching), and for the first several seasons his episodes were among the best.

He was pathetic and gullible, which led to him being manipulative and self-sabotaging, as he tried to convince himself he was more so many times but repeatedly failed. It was certainly frustrating and had me almost yelling at my TV at times, but frankly that was more interesting to watch than 90 percent of the characters on the show.

Of course, in later seasons Locke had a lot less to offer, and Desmond was around as the best character in the show, so he moved further down my list. But the idea that he was never interesting to watch is something I find it very hard to understand.

Terry O'Quinn is good, but the underlying character of John Locke has always been terrible.

I honestly have zero memory of Ilana existing.

I saw her entry and had to google who she was.

Some other people may be unhappy about Rose and Bernard ranking so high, but I fully support that decision. Not the most complicated characters, but the execution of their very limited arc is very good, and as you said, they DIDN'T get ruined by the end of the show, which is incredibly rare.

Okay well I read through this entire topic.

On one hand it is nice to bring back some happy memories. I recently watched Desmond's phone call from The Constant and still got choked up, one of the most emotional moments in TV history. But it also brings back a lot of frustration about how much wasted potential there was. Sun and Jin's ending. All the rules that didn't actually matter in any way (like Ben killing Widmore). All of the Jacob stuff. The entirety of season 6.

I wonder if Lindelof and Cuse could time travel back to season 1 now with full knowledge of what happened in the show and all the criticism... could they make it into the show that it had the potential to be?

Anyone solid topic I appreciate the writeups and agree with the vast majority of what was said in them, and I also enjoyed reading all the other posters' opinions that have been expressed in here. But if Desmond isn't #1 then this whole topic is disavowed.
