Her not being there will lose thousands of fans watching, which means less money being made by EVERYONE involved.

Long run, they'd probably assume that keeping people "in line" for future events is more worth it than whatever hit they'll take on this one particular event. Now, it could backfire on them spectacularly, but only time will tell.

I doubt any of that money comes from speaking to the media specifically. It mostly comes from her and the other player's athletic prowess and the history of these events as the places where the best players play and prove themselves. Sponsorships and all that is a separate thing from answering rote questions from the media. It's all the anxiety without any of the money, plus a risk of a PR disaster.

It's a cog that keeps the money machine going. It keeps the sponsors happy. It keeps their face fresh in the mind of the public. It's all just for show, but it's how these venues are able to operate. It's how they're able to televise events such as this to the world. Could they get by without it? Most likely. Would it likely lead to some decline in revenue they don't want to give up? Most certainly. These brands perform studies on how people react to this kind of shit for the purpose of making money. They're doing their best to squeeze every possible dime they can out of these people.

The job of tennis player is to play tennis. That's what she actually wants to do, along with all other tennis players. All this other stuff is extra added by third parties. I've seen people repeatedly suggest that she just shouldn't live her dream and play tennis if she doesn't want to be forced to do unrelated media crap. That's ridiculous. Other people do it because they like the limelight or they don't wanna rock the boat or they want the money and don't care that much or they don't have the level of depression that she does. But that doesn't mean she should have to deal with this extra stuff if it harms her.

It's not "playing tennis." It's "competing in a worldwide event with a payout of over $1 million if she wins and probably just as much or more from sponsors." She can play tennis anywhere, any time if she's fine with less money. Part of the reason she's able to make that much money is because there is demand for public figure athletes who represent major brands and move tons of money simply through existing.

If you want to go down that route, nothing but the act of the people playing the sport and some cameras are necessary, but that obviously means they're not going to be paid nearly the amount they're making. It's a cog in the media machine that gives them their paycheck. Vapid or not, worthless or not, unnecessary or not, it doesn't matter because it generates dollars for the sponsors, places that host the events, etc. Every bit of fanfare is unnecessary, but it's part of the job and lifestyle these athletes pursue. If she wants to just play the sport, there are lesser leagues for less pay that won't attract as much attention.

Because sponsors and people in charge of these events have obviously determined that it's necessary for the brand. Don't get me wrong, the whole thing is a massive showboating waste of time, but that's one part of how they generate the insane revenue that she's partaking in.

The difference is, like it or not, sports players are public figures whose worth comes from that as much as it does their skill. Unless she makes money solely from wins alone and has no sponsorships or other obligations, that is a necessary part of the job that earns her hundreds of thousand or millions of dollars, however much professional tennis players earn. I personally think this celebrity worship creates a very unhealthy environment for the celebrities that can lead to situations like this, but I think it's also just an inherent part of the gig, unfortunately.

If it's some mentally ill dude just doing his thing, probably buy something else and throw away the tainted food elsewhere so not to encourage his behavior. If it's some aggressive dude, call the cops.

Possibly, but I don't think it's to any insane degree. Media can obviously influence misconceptions about sex and cause people's standards to become skewed, but I don't think that's going to happen to the average consumer. Though I haven't read up on any studies about it either.

Eh, it's one of the costs of fame. I don't think it's a good thing, but you're never not going to be in the spotlight if you're out there earning millions of dollars and representing brands. She should have just stayed home from the getgo rather than trying to have it both ways.

Last I looked, there were only like a couple false convictions in the 90s that came with the death penalty and none since then. Nothing is impossible, but forensic advancements and technological advancements will reduce the chance of anything that would be serious enough for the death penalty. False convictions will obviously never go away, but I don't think we need to be overly worried about it being falsely applied to someone in modern day.

Yes. In terms of anyone convicted post 1990/2000, I think we're at the point where false convictions of really horrific crimes aren't really a thing anymore due to advancements in technology, so I don't think there is much worry of people being falsely sentenced to death.

I don't think putting dozens of people through horribly traumatic and deadly experiences and getting like two positive results is really a good indicator that his methods help people. He's certainly working from a very twisted and insane altruistic perspective, but that doesn't mean he's not the villain. He's just a slightly relatable insane villain.

Mostly depends on the characterization up until that point. There are times where its mostly bad writing that fails to properly show the characters thought process or development, so drastic changes in characterization feel forced.

I guess it depends on the definition of "super" and "rapidly." If you're going to die within 20 days, then all the intelligence in the world isn't going to help. If you're aging at three times the speed, you could likely figure out a solution to the aging issue before you die if you're given like comic book level super intelligence, but you also need to hope you can manufacture the process without needing to spend decades implementing the basic infrastructure needed to perform the process.

I honestly couldn't care less about it being my last name, but I do think married couples having the same last name is a good practice. Dogmatically sticking to the importance of "family legacy" and all the nonsense can go away though.

I'd say it's probably mostly a mix of poor mental health care and our media that is focused too much on dissection of the perpetrator. I don't know if it's really lack of available health care or more of a culture that doesn't see mental health care as a viable option, bordering on distrust or even disdain. We are ultimately still talking about like less than 0.001% of the population at the end of the day.

Not really, seeing as they picked an entirely new galaxy for the very purpose of allowing the series to continue while making sure they didn't need to canonize any particular ending from the previous game. While this new project may change that a decade later, the original plan was obviously to abandon the galaxy for good, but Andromeda's failure caused them to turn back.

Yes, the post-reaper politics of the galaxy and the effects of the fate of the Reapers on those politics would be important. The fates of the individual characters, their roles in the affairs of the universe, an actual set of fates for Shepard, etc would all have been much better than what we got.

But the major conflicts in the game were already concluded in ME3. You end the Geth vs. Quarian conflict. You end the Krogan genophage conflict. You get all of the races to work together with you vs. the reapers. All that's left is deciding the fate of the reapers and the mass relays, and the game gives you 3 choices at that.

In a perfect world, you'd have choices at the end, but you'd have different choices depending on your actions up until that point and each choice would have variations depending on your choices up until that point. We don't need 100 different ending variations, but we did need the consequences to have some purpose.

If anything, they were consistent throughout the series at giving you choices, but concluding with them not really mattering in the next game.

That was the consequence of them needing to flow well into the sequel, but ME3 didn't need to worry about that. We should have gotten something a little less varied than the Fallout slideshow but more than a 3.5 button choice that reflects nothing of your characterization of Shepard up until that point.

None of the endings would have been overly bad if they weren't just generic templates that don't take any of your actions into account. All of them would have been perfectly fine natural endings falling in line with your choices up until that point, with scenarios that reflect the galactic changes that were made throughout.

Did they get it from actual statistics or just a poll? It's not like it's unbelievable, but it'd only be relevant from actual data gathering. I don't really have much faith in polls of 1000 people being overly demonstrative of the entire population of the world.

It worked fine because it was basically just a unification of everything, but then the next game needed to go and drop time travel on us and start the timeline split shit anew.

I think you're vastly overestimating the porn market. It's no different than acting. The select chosen few make the big bucks and the d-listers take soul crushingly minor roles for normal job-level pay.

Wasn't Heroes basically A3? Either way, an actually good game in the series with varied gameplay mechanics would be great, but "good Sonic game" is somehow as hard to achieve as "bad Mario game" for some reason.

There's nothing that currently suggests we exist outside the confines of our brain activity, so any speculation as to a continued existence independent of the brain is just fantasy. It's not impossible there exists some unknowable function of the universe, but it's illogical to believe it exists.

I greatly fear the idea of not existing. I'd honestly love if I could believe in an afterlife, but it's simply illogical.

This seems like a really dumb simplification of whatever is involved with this government contract. After 70 or 80, there should be some kind of yearly check they have to fulfill, probably through a doctor who then either marks them as fit, recommends a driving test, or marks them as completely unfit.

Replacing it with a pet I'd actually have, I'd instantly go for my pet without a moment of hesitation in such a situation. I'd obviously try to save the kid after, but I'd assume in this situation that a hallway collapses or something after I grab my pet. I'm not going to have time to rationally weigh the pros and cons of human life vs animal life. If we're presenting this from a logical perspective, you have to make a split second decision to save something you love or someone you don't even know, so I don't really think all the people are really putting themselves in the shoes of someone making a split second emotional decision.

Corruption is not the primary problem with policing.

Outside of cases where it's just one insane shitbag cop, local corruption is what leads to tolerance/encouragement of brutality and other shady practices. You aren't going to find the same issues in every station or town or county across the board. That's just silly thinking if you're treating this like a completely uniform problem across the country.

While there are some national changes that can be made on overall training and accountability issues, this is something that needs to be investigated on a county by county level. There is nothing that can be done on a broad level to inherently fix local corruption. There are some areas that are going to have relatively no issues and there are some areas where the entire local government likely needs to be purged and charged for miscarriages of justice.
