| IronTusk 02/05/21 12:05:41 PM #12 | Yes. In some countries, you're even paid to get a higher education. If we want to pretend we're actually a meritocracy, the poor should have the same access to knowledge as the rich. Free higher education is an investment in a country's future. |

| IronTusk 01/06/21 2:12:24 AM #134 | thrashmetal14 posted... So if a working class dude dies young or unexpectedly all his money should be sent to the state instead of going to his family? If the working class dude has free education and free healthcare and UBI because of the extra trillions in funds from rich people not taking it with them then it's not as huge a deal. But let me amend my sweeping statement to "there should be a cap on inheritance." |
| Topic | What's your most controversial opinion? |
| IronTusk 01/06/21 1:44:56 AM #126 | Inheritance shouldn't be a thing. People shouldn't have a leg up over others because of rich parents. Estate and capital gains taxes should be way higher (like over 90%) with the money going toward free public education and health care. |

| IronTusk 12/23/20 5:20:09 PM #6 | Somewhere in the $10,000 to $12,000 a month range. Source -- I previously owned a $500,000 house in California with a 20% down payment and was paying a touch under $3,000 a month. The real killer though was the taxes. Don't forget to factor that in depending on your state. |

| Topic | Do you guys seriously think Trump will lose the election? |
| IronTusk 11/01/20 6:27:00 PM #40 | Every poll average (including both weighted averages for all polls and those only averaging high-quality polls) seem to indicate Trump has about a 10% chance to take it. The state level polling now is much improved compared to 2016 and even those polls were accurate nationally. 2018 polls were quite accurate (apart from slighlty underestimating Dems in the Sun Belt and over-estimating them in Florida). 1 in 10 is still a fair chance for something so world-changing so I'm still cautious. |

| Topic | American Airlines Staff are OUTRAGED now that they're allowed to wear BLM PINS!! |
| IronTusk 09/07/20 10:34:59 PM #5 | The notion of a Black person's life mattering is humanitarian statement before it's a political one. In effect "Black lives matter" is an "all lives matter" sentiment, because western power structures have shown time and time again that the lives of people of color are more disposable than the lives of white people. Police brutality and unjust arrests/shootings certainly occur against white people, but disproportionally less so vs Black and indigenous peoples when accounted for cohort size. It's just data, not politics. Source: https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/investigations/police-shootings-database/ https://www.cbsnews.com/news/what-decades-of-traffic-stop-data-reveals-about-police-bias/ https://preview.tinyurl.com/yyjbsqk7 So I have nothing against American Airline employees expressing truth. If truth upsets anyone then that's a different issue. |

| IronTusk 09/07/20 10:04:20 PM #48 | ZMythos posted... 1. That's assuming that school should be a peripheral for work. Which, granted, many people do treat it as such, but I argue that schools should value education (which includes academics, the arts, human development/health, and social-emotional learning) more than "career readiness". Just to be clear -- my argument is not with you, but with the education system. My mother is a teacher and i have the upmost respect for your profession. To me, the arts, human development/health, and social-emotional learning are all a part of career readiness. I don't see them as distinct. Education can and should be valuable and applicable in a work context, soft skills in particular. Homework doesn't offer any of this. By infringing on the child's social life and freedom to learn how they so choose, homework compartmentalizes the student applying knowledge in a real-life setting. When a student could be learning through something they actually enjoy, instead they're spending their evenings absorbing that learning is taking them away from what they would like to do -- things that are valuable in a work setting. It's anti-educational. There's also the aspect of what homework does psychologically. It teaches children to be "good worker bees" who are always on call. This is not a healthy work habit and leads to an increase in stress and a decrease in creativity and innovation in the workplace. When I hire people, I don't want drones. I want people who come up with creative solutions. Instead what's coming out of schools now is often a lot of stressed, work-addicted young adults and it makes me sad: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/answer-sheet/wp/2014/03/13/homework-hurts-high-achieving-students-study-says/ Homework also disproportionality benefits children with rich, highly-educated, and/or happily married parents, who already have advantages. I understand that you're forced to assess the student but how can you be sure you're assessing them and not their parent's aid on the assignment? Is a poor student whose single mother works 3 low-paying jobs and gets home at 11 pm given the same expectations as the rich student with the live-in nanny and the full-time mom with a Master's degree? That's not a level playing field and challenges the idea of our education system as a meritocracy. I know you're just doing your job (and likely have a lot of homework too!) but there's so much toxic and biased about how we evaluate kids and their education. |

I don't care about the formatting. Don't care about the school either (I hire high school dropouts without hesitation so long as they fit what I'm looking for). What I care about is whether your skillset and background will solve an immediate need on my project and if you have the potential to solve more needs as you grow in your role. I will ask about gaps in your resume lasting longer than 6 months -- if you weren't working I want to understand what you learned or experienced in that time and how you grew from that experience. I've had a good amount of jobs... wow 15. -English/Math tutor -Bookstore clerk -Grocery store clerk -Theater Stage Manager / Lighting tech -Garbage truck driver -Waiter -Insurance salesperson -Front desk at a gym -Job coach for people with developmental disabilities -Recycling Center manager -Touring Musician / indie label owner -Software tester -Software assistant producer -Software audio producer/director -Software lead producer |

| IronTusk 08/30/20 1:01:51 PM #11 | IndustrialTrudg posted... Ok I havent played this game but I've immediately lost all interest. It's not quite that simple as with Orlandu. Citan's only that strong while fighting on foot (and really only after a particular story event pretty late in the game). While in a gear he's merely good. Kinda like in Xenoblade Chronicles X there's a particular build you can set up where your characters are stronger on foot than in gears, but you have to set up the right equiptment. |

| IronTusk 08/30/20 1:47:05 AM #4 | It was one of my favorite games ever when it released. I was a teenager and it blew my mind. The second disc is rushed but doesn't harm the experience too much. I do suspect that playing it for the first time in 2020 a lot of the writing and mechanics may feel dated. |

At the MOST they can charge him with brandishing, and maybe a couple other minor charges. Ask yourself -- REALLY ask yourself -- whether you would say this if he was Black. |
