Anyway, if you're going to track down the Bachman books, try to find an old used copy. About 15 years or so ago, King decided he didn't want Rage to be available anymore because of all the school shootings like Columbine as he didn't want anyone to read it & use it as inspiration.

Huh really. I thought Apt Pupil was way more disturbing

Looking this up, I had no idea the guy who played the live action version of Leon in the 1998 RE2 commercial in Japan also played the lead role of Apt Pupil. Insane.

I'm more of a fan of the Bachman books, but I definitely like Stephen King on the whole. That said, "The Long Walk" remains my favorite of his work and I wish some sort of visual adaptation would happen even though it'd be pretty difficult to adapt one hundred kids walking and make it interesting enough to hold people for an hour and a half-two hours. Maybe a fake documentary of sorts? I dunno.

they're working on an adaptation

I've never heard or The Long Walk but it seems popular.

After World War II, America has become a dystopian country and one of the ways people vent is by hosting the annual "Long Walk," which consists of one hundred kids across the country coming together to walk and the last one still walking wins "The Prize," which is anything he wants for the rest of his life. Each walker has three warnings that they can accrue before "buying a ticket" on the fourth warning and dropping out of the walk.

It's fucking great. The premise alone instantly intrigued me and when I finally read the book I felt like my money was definitely well spent. What I didn't expect was how sad the story gets at times.

Lines 17 and 18 in particular.

17 - Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:
18 - Lest the Lord see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.

It seems to me that if you want your enemy to fail, you shouldn't praise when he does because otherwise the Lord will cease from punishing him. But if you don't want your enemy to fail, then the Lord will punish him.

Am I just misreading/misinterpreting these two verses? It seems somewhat hypocritical.

Disclaimer: I'm honestly not trying to start an argument of any kind, I was reading my nightly proverbs and these two verses always confuse me every time I come across them and thought I'd seek some clarity from others that might be better versed in the Lord's work.

Are you victim blaming?

Gamers are hardly victims. We're actively engaging in supporting these companies with poor business practices and purchasing their microtransactions. Even when it was a no brainer to boycott shit (Fallout 76, Anthem) people still ended up blindly supporting it lol it's like blaming McDonalds for making someone fat.

EA was already most likely feeling the heat from Battlefront, Battlefield, Anthem, etc. doing poorly. If gamers used the same hatred they have for EA towards companies like Bethesda, Blizzard, Activision, etc. there would be a meaningful change within the industry without needing the government's involvement.

Yeah, and what about the gamer that doesn't engage in any of that shit? The guy or girl that doesn't buy microtransactions, that doesn't play gacha, that doesn't play games that rely heavily on such systems? What about them, when they try to avoid such products that become more and more prevalent in series that didn't have such predatory measures in the past?

This shit isn't going to stop, it's only going to become more and more present and obnoxious and spread to more and more titles unless some sort of regulation occurs.

Pretty much this. It needs to be ageless, although I'm well aware the legs for this bill stems from being "for the children." Like I said, it's not aggressive enough.

This is too weak, it needs to go harder on the offensive. Legislating only pay-to-win lootboxes is a small part of the problem when it needs to attack most lootboxs/microtransactions across all platforms, including gacha and gambling ala CS:GO, etc., save for purely cosmetic items. I really hope they add some legitimate teeth to this bill, because right now it feels like it's barely got any bite to it.

This is the worst part.

Watch as all of your childhood memories are reduced to an atypical anime cliffhanger.

I mean...what part were they gonna end on? You know it's arguably the most memorable scene from the game, and so of course it makes sense to pull a "To Be Continued..." on it.

How about ending it with beating Sephiroth like they did goddamn 22 years ago

But the marquee scene is Aerith dying.

Missing the point

Point is splitting a game into parts, when the original with far inferior technology was a massive game in one package, is stupid

SquareEnix knows what it's doing when it splits the game up in two, because it knows people will buy Final Fantasy VII, twice over, and they know the scene everybody remembers is Aerith dying - which is why it'll be used to end part one.
