If I saw a group of people discussing their love of cheese, I am well aware that if I thrusted myself into their conversation to tell them how much I hate cheese, that would probably annoy them. Therefore, I think it would be trolling for me to do so, even if it is genuine. So, I don't see how you should have to pretend to be someone you're not, unless you are someone who has a completely uncontrollable need to constantly spout their opinion regardless of context or reception.
