I remember this story blowing up pretty big in the news and especially in medical circles when the video first came out.

This was a good outcome. That officer was way out of line and his colleague knew it. $500k for the victim is more than enough for compensation, but I think anything much less than that wouldn't have been enough as a fine upon the police department. This is wrongful arrest on a staff member + attempted assault on a patient in hospital and can't be tolerated.

This, kind of. Bojack is slower, more brooding and more depressing, but I think it hits harder overall when it suddenly pulls out a serious moment on you.
Rick and Mordy is cynical, but still gets lots of moment to moment levity. It's an easier watch, and the episodes are less interconnected as a series than Bojack.

I felt like that too for awhile. I believe that I can choose a side opposing the opposite side, and still respect that the opposite side keeps my side in check and that both sides are required for a fair and balanced system. It's like being an actor in a play. I respect that our conflict is what drives the plot forward and without one side or the other, things would be dreadful.

Nazis openly marching in the streets sort of push me to say 'fuck them', though.

The whole dichotomy of "two sides" doesn't really make sense for something like politics, since the diversity of possible views is so wide. It's ended up that way in places like USA because that's the natural consequence of a pluralty electoral system like FPTP. Introducing a proportional voting system would be the best way to break the depressing stagnation that's become ingrained in national politics there, imo.

BMI is not "crap" for this purpose; it's actually the most appropriate application of BMI data to count it across a large group of people. At a population level, the people you're talking about make a tiny proportion of the population.

Oh. Eh....... the movie's so old, I feel like it'll be extremely outdated to watch it today.

Blade Runner came out before I was born, and I had never seen it until today, a few hours before watching the sequel. It holds up quite well from a technical standpoint, honestly. The only really dating thing is some of the costume choices.
Watching 2049 first would have made some parts of the original a lot less interesting.

And yeah, I'll reiterate again that I am open to the "common sense" gun control like universal background checks, but that would not have prevented this specific incident. The only thing that could have prevented it would be more extreme levels of gun control. It's just been incredibly frustrating seeing so many talking heads in the media who seem to not understand this at all and just say "common sense gun control" needs to happen after this without further elaborating about what that means.

I live in New Zealand. It's quite easy to own a gun here (From age 16 you can get your firearms license by taking a course at a police station), but the guns available are pretty narrow. It's basically rifles and shotguns only. No handguns and nothing semi-automatic without getting extra endorsements on to the license:
