Granted, the conviction itself can be used as evidence, but that isn't immediately dispositive like an admission (guilty plea) would be.

All that notwithstanding, the kid would almost certainly be judgment-proof.

To the folks asking about the no contest plea, the primary purpose behind the plea is to avoid accepting culpability without disputing the charges. The practical consequence of a no contest plea is that in a civil case arising from the same facts (say the teacher filed a civil lawsuit for battery, etc), the plaintiff (generally) may not bypass the burden of proof by using a guilty plea as an admission of guilt/liability.

The summary judgment aspect has a somewhat decent chance on appeal given the standard of review involved. No appellate court in its right mind should be entertaining any of the bullshit recusal or mistrial arguments, though.

Edit: Not quite sure what the ramifications would be given the multiple causes of action still at play and the amount of evidence adduced.

Are staff allowed to make campaign contributions? I can't find anything online that prohibits it.

New York's canons, Section 100.5(C) appears to do so and prevents contributions over $500. That said, they need to prove bias/prejudice for any recusal or mistrial.

Edit: also, again, our job as law clerks is/was to help the judge. Conversations would disrupt trial and examination. Kise is a shitheel.

That's the only thing I can think off. Piss the judge off until he loses his cool, then appeal on the claim that he's emotionally unstable and biased against them.

From personal experience, judges are protective of their law clerks. They would get zero sympathy on appeal when appellate judges have their own clerks (and it would probably be the law clerk drafting the opinion for the judge's review).

Lay off the fucking law clerk, Jesus. Also the audacity to explicitly accuse the judge of lacking independent thoughts.

I might be mistaken, but I've been following the case rather closely. I'm not aware of any decision by the appeals court that went in Trump's favor. Maybe he's referring to the appeals court dropping Ivanka Trump from the suit, but the AG subpoenaing Ivanka to testify? Not sure. Trump either doesn't have a good grasp of what is going on in the trial (his comments about Michael Cohen and trying to get the case dismissed) or he's just lying.

That's about what I figured. the only news I found regarding an appeal was back on October 6 that temporarily delayed the dissolution of his businesses.

Unless NY is reeeeeeeeeeeeally far out there, any dispute over subpoenas should not be an appealable issue at this time, if at all. Her knowledge is clearly relevant given her involvement in the Trump businesses.

As for your choice of possibilities regarding Trump's understanding/truthfulness, the answer is always "Yes."

No, it won't. It's a stupid argument made by desperate lawyers representing a stupid man child that flies in the face of how people communicate. Notwithstanding the partial summary judgment for the State, a directed verdict requires an absolute failure to provide evidentiary support for the case in chief. As the judge said, Cohen is not some ground shaking lynchpin in the State's case; he's a source of corroboration.
