I lost my old ps2 Growlanser collectors edition somehow when I moved out of college after graduating line 18 years ago.

Haha no I am stuck home and sick. I also have advanced degrees in liberal arts and social science. I spent gobs of time reading literature, poetry, and music in school and for fun.

I sometimes like to take silly internet posts and treat them as srs business.

The song is a fable and the song premise has two majors themes breaking down across individual choices and societal expectations from society. The moral s ignore societal pressures and seek your own happiness. Authentic life is the key to happiness.

Skater Boi and preppy girl liked each other. Presumably the feelings are real and mutual. Preppy girl exits or never truly pursues the relationship because of social pressure. She appears to end up in what was likely a socially acceptable relationship that leaves her alone with a kid.

Skater Boi apparently stays true to himself and becomes famous. Now he is acceptable in preppy girls world now that he has fame. Preppy girl's friends all want to go to his concert. Preppy girl seemingly had misgivings over the end of the Skater Boi relationship and had been following his career -- she already know he is a big deal prior to the friends calling. She goes to the concert and feels even sadder about what might have been, but note she felt bad already. Him being famous just adds insult to injury.

She avoided this relationship due to immatury and social pressure. She was not true to herself. She liked him as a Skater Boi all along but stifled those feelings due to societal expectations.

Skater Boi lives a life true to himself. He pursues his life regardless of expectations and becomes famous for who is authentically is.

Narrator, Avril, notes that Skater Boi ended up with her in the fable. She accepted Skater Boi as he was and now she and him have true happiness. They lived authentically and overcome societal feeders to find it. Narrator gloats a little at the end, but I think that is done to drive the point home.

Tl;dr. Live authentically and ignore social pressure to find happiness. Preppy girl is a tragic victim.

The bad guy is society. The preppy girl is a victim.

Perhaps. On the original run of Gargoyles, they aired the episode where Broadway accidentally shot Elisa uncut, but every repeat airing had it censored. I believe even the Disney plus version is censored.

I could be retroactively imagining seeing at as kid too.

Are you sure they didn't? I remeber seeing at a kid. We had Nickelodeon when the channel first came out more or less via a big satellite dish in our yard. Maybe they showed it in the original run?

It was one of my favorite shows as a kid. A guy from Devo helped do the music. Tom Bosley does great voice acting.

Kids shows today are so vapid and sterile. They need more shows like this one that actually have real moments of heart, joy, and loss.

I am in my 40s. I've played games since I was really young with my parents and older siblings on the Atari 2600.

I've had systems for every gen since then. We also had a Tandy in the 80s followed by pcs throughout my life.

The first game I ever played that really made me go wow the future is here -- in a way that floored me -- was GTA 3. I probably played more revolutionary games in the past but this my lived experience.

It felt, looked, and sounded like something I had only imagined being possible in a game. It felt like a real place where I could do anything. I had played things like Ultima and open RPGs before but this game blew my mind. It felt like the fruition of what games had been trying to reach for only now it was here.

It was not long after 9-11. I was in high school. I had played gta games before but they did nothing for me. A close friend of mine, also the richest kid around, kept hyping gta 3. He had a habit of hyping things so I sort of ignored his opinion. Well he got the game finally. He insisted I play it. So we had a long weekend off from school and he came over to stay the night with another of our friends. He popped it in the ps2 and we were captivated. I think we just took turns playing for 12 hours straight.

I think Culture Club is much more accessible with extremely strong pop sensibilities. I like both songs quite a bit for what they are.

I think Culture Club is closer to perfecting what it is trying to be than Radiohead.

I think in this instance I give it to Boy George and company. I have OK Computer on vinyl and I love the album. However I think Karma Chameleon is one of the finest pop songs of the 80s. Karma Police is better consumed as part of an album experience and does not quite stand as strong in this song vs. song match up

You should always cite underlying research. Reliable encyclopedias are well sourced assemblies designed to give an overview, detailed or otherwise. They are not intended to be a replacement for research. Which is why they shouldn't be used in citations. You aren't citing a source by citing an encyclopedia. You are citing somebody else citing a source.

They are still useful in myriad other legitimate academic and educational contexts though.
