I use an early Sharp Aquos 4:3 LCD TV that has component inputs, it's a pretty nice alternative. I would like to get a ~20" CRT with component someday, but I live in such a lame place, it's almost impossible to find one even as a frequent thrifter and craigslister

I wonder if it's analogous to finding out that art you like is made by someone you later discover is awful in some way.

When people struggle with this question, the problem stems from thinking of works of art as identical with their content and nothing more; in other words, some black-box process outputs a piece of audio/visual/textual content, the viewer experiences it with their senses, and has some intellectual response purely to the object and independent of what was inside the black box that made it.

I don't think anyone actually enjoys art that way. It is inherently a communicative, social activity, so things like the personality of the creator, the story/process behind its creation, or the circumstances in which you view the work are all important and legitimate parts of the experience. We value art not just as sensory objects but as a way of connecting with other people.

The easiest example would be popular music, where probably every listener would agree that the personality of the singer makes a big difference in how the vocals and lyrics affect them. Kurt Cobain being an empathizable, relatable person is what makes Nirvana satisfying to listen to, so it wouldn't be just bias or prejudice or something if you no longer enjoyed it after learning that Kurt was just a robot trained on 9 trillion words of teenage boys' angsty poetry

No, it says in a highly stylized font. The and are fused which is the main reason it looks like roman letters

Yeah it does. They're prerendered, but they're definitely there. It was part of the "purple cow" factor a 90's platformers had to have to gather any attention whatsoever.

But there are still so many problems with calling that "low-poly", a term people use to describe the look and feel of 3D graphics in the Saturn, PS1, N64 era:

• The graphics are still 2D sprite-based graphics
• Rare used high-end Silicon Graphics workstations to create their 3D art, which is as far from a low-poly look as you could get at the time
• I'm not an expert, but I think the modeling they used wasn't even polygonal? I believe they used NURBS or something which gives it that smooth curvy look

I just think it's dumb when these sorts of retro-aesthetic terms and signifiers get stereotyped and indiscriminately used in inappropriate places

Dunno why they didn't just use DK64 instead, it would have made more sense
