I will say that Snag is generally considered much safer than Rising Sun here. And also you can hit the enemy you snagged right after to reset them faster to use Snag again.

Aw dang, that woulda been helpful. Good to know for next time (on Standard with no restrictions lol). I started many an attempt with chains of Snag/Sparkle Ray only for the guy to randomly stop offering a Snag. Eventually made it through somehow though.

Finally made it to the save point after Demyx. Then died six hundred times to the 1000 Heartless battle.

It's so jank. Like it's fine until you play the mode where landing on any one attack will stunlock you into a fatal combo. Then it's too much jank.

Okay, guess I'm done for the night. I've beaten Demyx three times now and died to some absolute bullshit every time in the run down the valley after. And to add insult to injury, my last post is over an hour old now, so I couldn't even put this message in an "Edit II: Final Mix".

Oh gawrsh I beat him. That was a time. Still not as atrocious as Data Demyx on any difficulty though.

Edit: NEVERMIND I get to fight him again cuz I died during the Final Fantasy team up segment. Thanks for nothing, Cloud.

Predictably, the first Org fight is proving difficult. I happened to summon Stitch in the fight just before this so I've been starting every attempt with him out. And he's stuck around the whole time for most attempts. But if Demyx gets a whole stream of bubbles in on me and Stitch doesn't block any, then I'm instantly dead. I got through most of his final health bar on one attempt, so this seems doable.

Also, I've learned that his cutscene attack where Sora taps his shoulder and then gets smacked can actually one-shot you. It's the first single hit I've seen that does that.

Also also Stitch's ukulele can shred water forms. If he could do that on command (outside of the limit that eats up the summon bar), that'd totally be the meta for Data Demyx. Wisdom Firaga ain't got shit on the lad banging out the hits.

Also also also it's still hilarious to me that they put the new ten minute cutscene of the Organization fucking around elsewhere right before this fight. It's such a horrible, pace-killing spot to put a scene that doesn't matter at all.

Tron boss was tough, but also a fun puzzle. If you stay away and let your teammates attack it, you can follow after it and collect the clusters to freeze it. Stitch is amazing for the fight. When he feels like it. The ukulele can knock tons of clusters out of the boss for free and his usual brand of amazing (blocking attacks for you and restoring your MP) is great too. But also, he decided to not do any of that for long stretches. Not his best performance honestly.

Phew. The Light Cycle game sucks. As it does on every difficulty. You may make one (1) mistake. The penalty for a second misstep is death. Also the bike heartless can and will spawn on top of you. :]

I did Level 1 playthroughs of KH1 and 3 but not 2.

In KH1, the EXP Zero ability also gives you a buffer that protects you from OHKO. Meanwhile 3 allows you to get Second Chance and Withstand Combo via other means than leveling up. But what about 2? Does everything just one-shot you? I always figured it did, which is why I never tried.

I'm not sure. So far most things are killing me in two hits. There have been plenty of times I thought I was one-shot, but then realized I had been missing a sliver of HP. Pretty sure there was one instance where I was knocked down from full health to 1 HP. You can definitely get full combo'd, but maybe there is some kind of protection from single hit kills. I'm only approaching the halfway mark though, so idk.

The first time I've ever routinely used and purchased items in a Kingdom Hearts game. I finally cave and buy Goofy a new shield. I immediately get a better shield drop from the book Heartless. I'm never investing in Goofy again.

I still am very much dying a lot lol. I reckon I've just put a lot of time into it in the last couple days. Also skipping cutscenes really speeds things up lol.

Full disclosure: I don't actually like most of the data fights. But Demyx is the worst of the bunch. It practically requires you to follow one extremely specific script to the letter or you won't stand a chance of surviving the dance. Also the game never even explains WHY failing those sections is a game over. They coulda had an animation where the forms surround Sora and drown him or sumthin, but no. You fail and then you just pout so hard that you're sent back to the start of the fight. Stupid dancing ass water.

Halloween Town and Agrabah done. Oogie Boogie felt like a game of chance. Which is on brand for him, but it wasn't fun.

The swarm in the Cave of Wonders was pretty mean. The three big fire breathers at the end with no space to get away in particular. Reflect helped a lot. Just had to keep some MP restoration handy.

The biggest surprise was first try clearing the combat trial where you repeatedly fall down to deeper platforms. I was expecting to die a lot and then struggle to kill everything within the time limit when I learned not to die lol. The other biggest surprise was clearing the Berserker Nobodies in Twilight Town without dying. I was prepared to rage, but it was a smooth ride. I'll save the rage for Space Paranoids and the battle of Hollow Bastion next time I play.

Just got legit mad for the first time so far. Protecting the medallion in Port Royal was ass. Fighting cursed pirates is always serious ass what with the shadows and such, but when they two-shot you and also there's random cannon fire, it's even asser. It took all the cheese I could muster to make it through.

Barbossa is mean too, but at least he'll let you keep freezing him for the whole fight. I really thought he'd get a guaranteed resummon of the Heartless that steals the light, but he doesn't.

Yeah I've been thinking about Marluxia and his gimmick. At least that's a fun fight to struggle with. And it's optional lol. There are plenty of other Org fights, optional and mandatory, that I imagine I'll find much less fun.

Beating N. Tropy and Oxide's time trial ghosts in CTR Nitro Fueled for the character and costume. I never beat all the staff ghosts for the special wheels they added later though. Those ones are TOO crazy and I don't have the dexterity for all the top speed turns lol.

Beating Lingering Will in KH2FM without getting hit. Once. In my two million fights against him.

Several of the achievements in Slay the Spire. I've gotten most of the basic and weird ones now and mostly have Ascension runs left. But there have been some crazy runs and plays in there.

Okay nevermind, getuponthehydrasback isn't nearly as chaotic when you're playing it safe. And Pete wasn't bad either. His Heartless behaved themselves for the first half and Chiggen Liddle kept them in line for the second half. Pete and ghosts did kill me once, but saving Chiggen for that section did the job. Even Meg stayed nice and healthy for the whole escort bit.

Also I popped into the Zexion fight for the lulz. And lulz were had. I got in a couple combos anyway.

Yay, Cerberus went down first try. Which surprised me cuz I could swear I've been Mickeyed in that fight before. But he does only have like four moves, so you can play it pretty safe. I'm guessing Pete and his squad will be a bigger threat. Also the getuponthehydrasback has a lot going on, so we'll see how that plays out.

Oh hiya! Hope you're doing well.

Guys guys guys, guess what? You can totally cheese the Underworld escape! The path opens in front of you when you defeat the Heartless in the way, but it doesn't close behind you as you advance. So you can run back to get some distance from the enemies while you heal or recover MP. Hades will keep stalking you, but as long as there are a couple feet between you, he'll just keep throwing fireballs in a very predictable and avoidable manner. Next in line is Cerberus I think, but we'll save that for another day. Now it's time for a nice relaxing LW fight to end the night.

I was thinking about trying a KH1 Lv1 run soon. I've heard it's janky though. Heck I wouldn't even get Scan, I think.
Haven't done it for any of the KH games yet. I'd want to do KH2 eventually too.

Aw jeez I would never try this in KH1. That sounds even more agonizing than playing KH1 normally. I jest, but only a little. Also I couldn't live without Scan.

I think the real test will be some of the later fights. The Roxas one still lives in my head at home many times I tried to beat himwithout knowing I had missed out on dodge completely. He was still hard for me after I went back to level up and get it.

Ooh yeah, I never learned the Roxas fight all that well. As of now, my strategy for that fight is to give up on the Lv1 run before I get to it.

Yeah, never getting Second Chance and Once More is gonna suck real bad. Tbh, before I started I kinda thought they were some of the freebie abilities you get at the start of Critical. I sure done remembered wrong there.

My understanding though is that the game uses some pretty weird stat systems where there's a cap to how much stat is taken into consideration for both you and the enemy, so you might actually not get one-hit-KO'd by any hit by late game enemies. IIRC, any strength above 80 Sora has is not calculated when dealing damage to the endgame data fights. I'm probably getting it a little wrong, it's been years since I read up on it.

That would be super lovely. I love not getting one shot by things. And yeah, there's definitely a stat cap for Sora & pals. One I learned about far too late when trying to beat LW the first time. I synthesized SO MANY stat boosts and then learned that half of them were actually useless against bosses.

i feel like for bosses, they're kinda like learning to ride a bike? once you've learned their patterns its all just muscle memory now and you can do it any time forever.
it would be the random heartless battles that are the toughest because of how random/chaotic those get right? but evcen those once you get like wisdom form or something should be vastly easier when you have reliable AOE which can't be bounced off by fatties and whatnot

That's how I feel right now. Some of the bosses are still gonna take a lot of learning, but once you learn them, it just takes some patience and persistence. Groups of enemies though. You really gotta play it safe and then you still need some luck. You can keep an eagle eye on four enemies at once, find your opening, and then get sniped by the fifth one. That's me right now in the Underworld escape. I miss Reflect. T_T

I'm generally not much of a challenge junkie, but I do love playing Kingdom Hearts 2. I have 60 Manifest Illusions in my Critical mode save from beating up Lingering Will for funsies. I even beat him without getting hit once. And if I can no-hit the hardest boss in the game, surely I can do the same for every other fight, right? Right? So I figured I'd try a Lv1 Critical playthrough.

And umm... everything wants to kill me? And everything is good at it. I knew Critical was already tough and the early game is usually rough on any difficulty, but I wasn't expecting random mobs to be this brutal.

My first death was to the Nobodies immediately before the second Axel fight. I didn't want to waste my potions cuz I thought Axel would be the bigger threat, but when I got to him, he went down super quickly.

I went for Beast's Castle first cuz I wanted Cure. The fucking door boss is usually the first thing to kill me in every playthrough, and this time was only an exception because I'd already died a few times getting there. I still have no idea how to dodge its dark orb move. So Mickey came to save me for the first time. The main boss in the ballroom also took several attempts and at least one more Mickey save. But it's totally fine to use up my guaranteed Mickeys early on because after this I'll have Cure. So it's totally fine don't worry about it. >___>

I just finished the Land of Dragons. I wasn't expecting the missions at the start to be so tough. The floating robed guys are relentless. They hit so quickly and never leave you alone. They killed me more than the big centaur dudes. And Shan Yu's moves ended up being simpler than I expected, but it was harder than I thought to fight him while trying to keep the gates from falling. And his fucking bird?! That thing that I usually never even notice killed me multiple times. And apparently it has a grab move that I've literally never seen until now.

I'm pretty familiar with the fights and plenty of the moves in this game, but this run is kinda forcing me to learn movesets more thoroughly. Particularly of lesser enemies. I wish it had a New Game Plus though. I'd enjoy the early game with this scaling more if I had the full kit of movement abilities, attacks, and at least the first level of spells from a previous save. Also no Second Chance/Once More is cruel.

Next world is Olympus. I'm not looking forward to the Hades escape segment. Lone bosses you can learn. Mobs though? Chaotic. Unpredictable. No manners.

The hunts added since release are certainly harder than the rest. Some harder than I generally wanna deal with, but I know some folks prefer them that way. There's also a new rng charm system if you're looking for a reason to grind.
