havent posted here in a while. Glad to see a lot of yall are still killing it! I really had the gym at the bottom of my priorities for the last year. So much going on work and personally, most of it good! Ive kinda hit the age where I feel that exhaustion far more both on the short term and the long term, and its made the going to lift for multiple hours for 6 days a week something thats just hard to do consistently.

When i was younger i would come home from high school/college/early post college years and immediately go to the gym. Now in my mid 30s, I drive to the gym from work and when i get to the gym parking lot I have to sit in my car for like 15 minutes before actually walking in lol.

Also, if I stop at home on the drive home, I almost always take the day off. I think this is my 'getting older' moments. Still honestly having great workouts, especially now with my pinched nerve issue finally going away, but I think 50 cent said it once 'ya im still in the gym it just hurts a little' lol

But if you asked 1000 people what the first smartphone was almost all would say the iPhone), Twitter's sxsw conference, YouTube being bought out by Google (I believe was actually October 2006 but close), Facebook opening up to the general public were actually bigger events to our lives than the peak of the financial collapse.

This is literally how millions of Americans and a few billion people spend hours of their day, everyday.

I have mixed feelings about this. I can feel the nostalgia for sure. Honestly, the best time of my life was between late 2015 and early 2022.

Everything after that has sucked. Lots of things after 2015 sucked socially in our world. But I was in a happy relationship.

The modern problems started in the late 00s. The double down happened in 2015. But all contemporary problems in "first world" nations (and 2nd world, and probably even a lot of 3rd world tbh) is internet addiction, which became a massive uncontrollable problem in the social media + smart phone + algorithm age.

Sure my older brother was tying up our land line 24/7 in 1998 or whatever, but that was not the norm for most people. It was a manageable addiction in both the amount of people addicted, and the specific people already addicted didn't have such a strong addiction. The addictions were also limited because it took more time to download an mp3 of some dumb blink 182 song or whatever than it did to consume it.

Kingdom Hearts when it was first announced was considered lame, childish, and stupid.

Nothings changed, it still is.

Seriously though, people also kinda forget it took a little bit of time for people to actually like Wind Waker because it was too cartoony. The early 00s era of gaming was filled with this. Its the same concept behind why everyone shat on Raiden in MGS2. Hes not "edgy and dark and cool" like Snake.

Facebook opened to the general public in 2007. When it was only limited to college and high school email addresses it was WAY more tolerable.

I feel like people who are saying MAGA will dissolve once Trump dies are still not understanding why he won again in the first place. MAGA has evolved into a force of pure technocratic indoctrination of men of all ages. The dream of it dying with Trump is just a dream. I live in a village of 200~, 25 minutes away from a town of 10000~. nearest mall is about an hour away. it's kind of wild to talk about small towns that used to have a mall because those almost definitionally aren't what I'd consider small. the only "festivals" we have are mardi gras and july 4th fireworks

life before the internet sucked and all my entertainment came from reading books

local festivals are great. Malls used to have arcade tournaments, thats where i competed in MvC2 all the time and had great fun and met great people, who then you do other things with.

Sure, you can do MvC2 competitions online, but its not as fulfilling.

If anything, the internet has given rise to visibility for smaller towns as influencers flock there for the next big thing, at least until the bigger cities start making stuff that hasnt been overused by influencers yet
