So I heard a report that ESPN is canceling Around the Horn. I haven't watched it in years. I drifted away from it during the pandemic because the way they changed the format (out of necessity, to be fair) kinda hurt the show. I imagine they've gone back to doing it the way it was, but I never got back into it.
Nevertheless, this news does make me sad because I was a fan from the start during the Max Kellerman days. It introduced me to a lot of cool people over the years that I still follow, like Bomani Jones and Mina Kimes. The show felt like a mainstay that would remain on the air for as long as Tony Reali felt like doing it, but I guess not.
Now that Highly Questionable and Around the Horn are gone, the only ESPN show remaining for me that I still really care about (aside from the SVP Sportscenter, I suppose) is Pardon the Interruption. I imagine that is a show that will continue until Tony or Mike (probably Tony) decides they don't want to do it anymore, but maybe not. At least Tony still has his podcast if all else fails, but he's getting up there in years, so who knows how long he's going to keep doing it. I know Dan Patrick has said he's only doing his show for three more years, and then he's retiring.
It's kind of sobering to see big parts of my childhood, teenage years, and early adulthood slowly fading off the scene.
