Hey Jen, I really wanted to criticize you for how you spend your own money on your own purchases, because apparently were all maintenance men. But instead, I thought youd like to see John Olivers latest take on the the treatment of librarians on Last Week Tonight because I think youd be interested.

Aw I hope he was kind to them. Librarians are trying so hard lmao
I have an additional 2 year warranty with the installer. You can maintain your home the way you want and I will maintain mine the way I want :)

It's more effort and personal responsibility, but potentially more rewarding with less hassle (from not dealing with a landlord).

It also means being tied down (bad), but also comes with greater security (good).

Pros and cons.

yeah one of the main things i don't like about home ownership is that i can't really just pick up and move somewhere else. i have to make serious plans around my house and what to do with it if i want to move to a new city or state.

Literally anywhere that sells water heaters, that isn't also installing them.

Homedepot, Lowes, etc.

$500-550 gets you a 40 gallon with a 6 year warranty. Another $150-$200 gets you a 9 year warranty.

Loll actually just checked Depot has a Reem 40 gal with 12 year warranty for $639

Cost of Water Heater Installation
The national average for tank water heater installation is between $906 and $1,583 for the unit and labor

https://www.ebay.com/itm/276399038436

this water heater isn't $500 anywhere

can you locate this one new for $500-550?
Idk what kind of basic ass stuff you guys have but mine has several connection points. Either way I'm not installing a huge 40 gallon water heater. That's why people have these jobs so I'll keep them in business.
ultra_magnus13 posted...
A water heater swap is pretty straight forward. Unless there was a bunch of other work needed, If you paid $2000 for labor you got scammed.

https://www.angi.com/articles/how-much-does-water-heater-installation-cost.htm

Not sure where you buy your water heaters. The average cost for a water heater is $1300.

The one I installed is a Ruud Professional model and runs around $1,400 just for the water heater. Maybe you just buy very cheap water heaters.

All of the stuff 'getting revealed' is all stuff that was in the conversation before if you were aware of how gross Drake is. But I've been enjoying, yes!

I mean he's directly calling Drake a p*do. If Drake and his associates don't file defamation suits I'm def raising an eyebrow. It's one thing to have rumors or insinuate but he's directly stating it lol

In this essay I will answer why I think it's okay for someone to lack regard for other regular people. Other people lack regard for me and I'm okay with that. So I think other people should be okay with it too. That explains why I think it's okay for someone to lack regard for other regular people.

Thank you for actually answering the question.
SKARDAVNELNATE posted...
I think that does answer the question. I don't mind that you lack regard for me.

Can you directly answer a question?

Why are you okay with someone lacking regard towards other regular people?

I would like everyone who disagrees with me to know that I am indifferent to you. You are just text that appears on a screen. And I sincerely hope that to you I am the same.

That doesn't answer my question.

Still far superior to renting

Absolutely

Just a regular water heater, or one of those fancy heat pump models? We bought one of those and it cost a fortune, but our electric bill literally went down by like 25% so it paid for itself.

Just a regular one. I asked about a heat pump but it would cost me $6k for the pump and re-fitting my plumbing for it. I didn't have that cash right now but I'm defintiely thinking of it for the future.

Clearly we should ban people from getting pregnant until they've talked to a special therapist with a years-long wait-list, have a year of real life experience in their preferred parental status, reached at least the age of 25, told everyone they're a parent, and pass a (usually deeply misogynistic) doctor's arbitrary vibe check

I agree
I'm just a child free person. I have no children. That doesn't make a value judgment and for the life of me I can't imagine why it's offensive. Why is it even offensive to someone who likes to be a parent that someone purposely doesn't want to be one?
Cupcake2006 posted...
I get the sense that the moderators are just as confused as we are w/r/t what "politics" actually means.

The confusion arises because anything can be politcal to someone. This type of topic restriction leads to inconsistent moderation.
Also "child free" as a term isn't even negative. It's just a logical label for people who don't have children. It's doesn't make a value judgment.
Lynyrd_Skynyrd posted...
I think you may be right

I just saw a tiktok of a woman saying the term "child free" is offensive because it means it's like a negative to have kids. Imagine being so sensitive. Why do you careee. She compared it to other terms like "debt free" and "cancer free" saying we use it as positive and so saying childfree makes parenting seem like a negative.
Wonderful! This is the only thing I don't like about owning a house over renting lmao I don't want to be my own landlord
Well she's installed.
They have a no transphobia rule but you can't talk about trans topics.
Good
Fandom said human rights aren't political in a post here.
I thought they said trans issues aren't considered political because it's human rights?

Register the heater with the manufacturer to make sure they actually did give you a new heater.

He's very smart Jen

Lmao I edited my comment because i wasn't sure he'd even know what that word meant at this point.

Like humans aren't monkeys filled with snakes at all what is the scenario here we aren't even monkeys
SKARDAVNELNATE posted...
Knowing what his real argument is I do not find his position on that matter to be transphobic. Similarly, he has an argument about people being monkeys full of snakes. This can be interpreted as being in favor of self identifying, depending on the situation. If identifying as a monkey is more useful than identifying as snakes, and if people are consistent about it. Otherwise the facade of a monkey drops, the snakes start to come out, and other monkey people won't know what to make of that. Is that not what trans people advocate for? To be recognized as one thing instead of another that they would be seen as. Jordan Peterson also argues in favor of that.

How does this does this make sense to you at all
Whoever installed this one did not care at all. The drain pan caught no water and was leaking everywhere.
This brand I guess is cheap and lines their heaters with plastic instead of porcelain so it rusted really quickly. Do not recommend AO Smith.
Lynyrd_Skynyrd posted...
This reminds me of how Jen was saying the other day that parents just want everyone else to be as miserable as they are

My water heater is acting strange. I guess I need to start saving. $2700, Jesus...

Yeah save money. I just spent a lot of my savings on some stuff for my pool so I didn't have liquid cash this time and have to use my credit card. Bad timing.
Right? If it wasn't an emergency and I was planning something new I could have saved up. But I didn't really expect a water heater to completely rust out after 4 years.
