I think this is the most important thing here. Fuck them and fuck their jokes, forever. If you dont laugh at mine youre never getting the satisfaction of me reacting to any of yours.
So apparently I became one not too long ago, and didnt even notice. I wish I was given a notification or something.
28 years later is literally better than both 28 days and 28 weeks, stay mad lol

I love sport, but pretty much hate all films about sport.

The liberties they take really annoy me. I know they have to do it to reach a wider audience, and that's fine. It's just not for me.
Im the exact opposite, I hate all real life sports but usually love sports movies (if theyre really good).

Real life sports is so damn dry and boring, I can never make through watching a whole match, no matter what sport it is. But when a good film maker makes a compelling story out of it with great drama, writing, and acting Ill really enjoy the hell out of it. No matter what sport it is.

I watched interstellar for the first time last year and enjoyed it. I should watch the Martian. I also just ordered the book project Hail Mary
Oh yeah I love Interstellar, I saw it when it first came out in theaters and since then it had been my favorite space movie, until last year when I saw The Martian for the first time. Such a phenomenal film; has the perfect blend of drama, comedy, feel good moments, and does a more realistic approach on space travel than most SciFi movies/shows. Definitely recommend it.

Yep it the best choice to not watch trailer. The plot point mentioned near end of trailer was never mentioned to those who read the book or in its promotion. They went in blind to the book story 2nd or 3rd act.

It sucks I was spoiled but there so many movies being released I probably might not even watch this is why I risked it and watched trailer all the way through.
Im really glad I read this topic before seeing the trailer. I usually try to avoid most trailers nowadays, but sometimes Ill see a few for movies I dont know if Ill see or not. I hate how spoilery marketing is but I also get why they do it, to get more casual people to see it I guess.

I mean ironically the author of the book also wrote the Martian apparently
The Martian is genuinely one of my favorite space movies of all time, one of Ridley Scotts best films. I like it more than Interstellar.

Hearing this new movie is based off another book from the same author makes me excited for it. Gonna try not to see the trailer for this one though and go in blind since I know nothing about it.

Right now Im at like a 6 pack or so of 12 oz 8-9% IPAs per day, or sometimes a little more like 4-5 24 oz tall cans of the same beer, sometimes even 6. Thats probably less than a fifth of liquor like you mentioned though.
If you guys dont mind me asking, for those who experienced these DT symptoms, how heavy were you drinking at the moment before you experienced that stuff when trying to stop?

Used to only socially drink every weekend or so, but Ive been going a little harder and more daily the last few months. Hopefully stuff I hear of like this will inspire me to dial it back, but its a hard thing to do for sure.

Yeah, it did a total genre shift. If you're expecting a sequel to the first movie, it's technically that, but it's very different at the same time.
Additionally, the first one was at least a little interesting. This one is just a 'turn your brain off and laugh at the funny jokes' popcorn flick. They try to make some points about AI in the film but it's mostly just an action comedy (and the action's not great, and neither is the comedy).
Agreed with all this. What makes it even more disappointing is that the first movie was a great meta commentary on raising children with technology and how it affects their growth, screen time, parent interactions with kids vs just letting them on an iPad etc.

This one doesnt have anything interesting at all to say about any of that. It briefly dips into it in the beginning with the main character talking about regulating tech to kids, but it quickly abandons it and doesnt really bring it up for the rest of the movie.

Megan did some fucked up shit in the first movie. Its kinda weird she just is forgiven for that.

I think he might be more surprised that you specifically and willingly saw Ang Lees Hulk movie that many times
Ive been meaning to watch this since it came out but its on Hulu, which means the ads are absolutely insufferable, making watching a show impossible on there

such a shame
I saw Spider-man No Way Home at least 12-13 times while it was in theaters, also counting the few times I saw that extended re-release edition.

Its simply the greatest Marvel movie of all time, Infinity War/Endgame (I count them as one movie/experience) are a close second though.
Fallout is the better movie, but Ghost Protocol is my favorite. But I also wouldnt be mad if anyone said Rogue Nation, Dead Reckoning, or Final Reckoning are the best movies either. They are all really just that phenomenal.

1-3 are noticeably worse than 4 and up though. Decent movies but just nowhere near the quality of the later ones.
For those that order from Firehouse subs, what are some of your favorite sub choices? Its been a while since Ive been there (like a decade plus) and I wanna give it a shot, but dont know what to order.
In terms of animation, I think everyone is focusing too much on the human characters for this movie. While yes, I do agree with the complaints for the humans (Grubhub ad bean face etc), this movie has some STELLAR animation and creature designs for the aliens and all their tech. Which is like, the whole point of this movie.

I think Pixar nailed it here for that aspect. There are some really creative and visually fantastic alien designs in this movie. Pixar was really flexing here with the crazy concepts for different life forms and the way they are animated.

There is a character in this movie who is supposed to hold all knowledge/answers for the universe, and it looks like a super complex algorithm fluid helix looking thing. It was super awesome to look at, very fluid and both organic and tech like. Lots of stuff like that in this movie and I really dug it.
I really miss the cinematic focused and more linear story telling of the campaign in Budokai 1. That game had by far the best story mode of all the Budokai games. Awesome cutscenes that flowed right into the gameplay fights.

Its a shame because I really wanted to experience the Buu saga in that same style, but Budokai 1 only went up to the Cell saga.

Then Budokai 2 had to do that game board bullshit for their story mode, and Budokai 3 had that stupid flying over planets to jump into events story mode, that was broken up by character POVs too if I remember correctly. Just dumb gimmicks that werent pulled off well.
Wheres the topic

-Mission Impossible - was waiting for my brother for 3 weeks, but he can't seem to schedule with me
-How to Train Your Dragon

Gonna skip Lilo and Stitch and Karate Kid Legends and watch it when they stream or something.

Wanna see 28 Years Later and Elio too
Of all these, definitely at least try to watch Mission Impossible in theaters. Its my second favorite movie of the year, after Sinners

That scene from John Wick comes to mind
Which scene was that? I just rewatched all 4 movies before seeing Ballerina but for some reason Im blanking out on this scene.
The character Newt completely ruins Aliens for me. Didnt mind the character so much on my first view, but on rewatches its an unbearable plot point. I just hate the whole take care of and protect the innocent child! trope, its just annoying. An Aliens cut without Newt in it would be fantastic.

I also just prefer horror over action for the Alien universe in general. And I think Alien has a tighter narrative over Aliens.
I know people are gonna clamor to go support this movie since its finally an original and not a sequel or remake and I really want to for that reason

But man they could not choose a more annoying protagonist. That kid just seems so damn obnoxious, I dont know if I can see a whole movie with him yapping like that
On my way to see it right now. My expectations were high because I absolutely loved Past Lives, but recently a lot of coworkers and other people have said this movie is kind of boring and nowhere near as good or anything similar to Past Lives. So Im keeping my expectations in check.

What alternate timeline are you living in?
True, she did stagger surprisingly well when I used my jumping R2s every now and then. I can see it now.

Looks like I really gotta try an unga bunga build one of these days. I might do a whole series replay with unga bunga style only; for Dark Souls 1-3, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring.

Closest I ever got was using the chaos Zweihander in Dark Souls 1 (as part of a Giant Dad build), flattening enemies with the R2 was indeed very fun.
Thanks for all the tips for dodging waterfowl dance everyone. Now I kind of want to replay the fight and see if I can do it. These games really need some kind of boss rush mode

I feel like for this fight specifically, strength bonk is probably super hard. Since you are slower and rely on tanking hits, and she heals. But what do I know, Ive only played all these games with Dex builds mostly.

Nothing wrong with using game mechanics to beat bosses in the game. For me I do find that the mimic takes the fun out of her, but I also learned how to dodge WFD. It's a bit tight, but it can be done consistently and you feel like a boss for doing it.
Agreed, wont knock on other people for using them, but I just cant use them myself. It feels so wrong, like Im not even the one playing the game.

Also how the hell are people dodging waterfowl dance?? I feel like there just isnt enough time to roll more than once between one flurry and the other.

To be completely honest I kind of just spammed the dodge button whenever it happened since I just couldnt figure out the timing. Still got hit a bunch of times but 60 vigor + golden vow + opaline hardtear + boiled crab made it so I could tank the hits (with significant loss of progress due to her healing though).

What is your build?

Im a bit embarrassed to say since its a bit frowned upon by the community and definitely not one of the cool builds (which are unanimously strength bonk builds basically), but my build is DEX/ARC focused that uses bleed.

60 vigor, 30 endurance, 40 dex, 37 arc, 24 strength; dont have my game on me so I dont remember the rest, but those are the highest ones.

Used a +25 Occult Nagakiba (the super long katana) with Seppuku as the skill, turtle shield on my back. Talismans were Erdtree Favor +1, Lord of Blood Exultation, Great Dragoncrest shield, and Gold Scarab. White mask for even more bleed proc damage boost and the Scaled set for the rest.

Souls veteran since Dark Souls 1, but I started Elden Ring for the first time last July. This fight takes the cake as the hardest boss fight for me in any of the Soulsborne games, and l've beaten them all (except for Sekiro and obviously Elden Ring).

Took me around 3 total hours and 41-46 tries.

Very frustrating but rewarding boss. The healing she did with each hit was a bit unfair, it would be more fair if it was just certain moves. Also waterfowl dance is such a ridiculous move, I still dont really know how to dodge it well and just got by with luck whenever she did it.

There were a few tries where I was really close to beating her, but then I saw her jump up for a waterfowl dance, let out a big sigh and just put my controller down in defeat before she even attacked.

Phase 1 was harder just because most of the times I got to phase 2 I only had like 1-2 healing flasks left. Really had to perfect phase 1 to be prepared properly for phase 2.

Almost done with the game, just need to do Crumbling Farum Azula and the rest of the endgame. Havent touched the DLC but I own it and will be doing that after the main game.

Ranking my top 3 hardest bosses of the whole series: Malenia, Nameless King, and Lady Maria. Nameless King took me 2 hours and 20+ tries, and Lady Maria about 1.5 hours.

Mission Impossible series is literally the best spy action series of all time. Better than any James Bond or Jason Bourne film etc. Doing yourself a huge disservice by not seeing them.

1 and 3 are good enough movies, 2 is not good, but from 4-8 they are literally all 10/10 movies.

Specifically talking about the 4th entry and up, the first three are ok but just not as great as the more modern ones.
Yes, having Bill die before Ellie and Joel met up with him was one of the biggest changes of the show, if not the biggest change really, since most of the show is pretty one to one faithful to the game.

While I did like what they did with Bill and Frank in the tv show, I was bummed that we didnt get any of those hilarious interactions between Bill and Ellie that we got in the game since they hated each other so much.

In an alternate reality, seeing Nick Offerman and Bella Ramsey dig into each other would have been so entertaining to see on the show.

There's no way they can stretch the show to 4 seasons WITHOUT expanding on the Santa Barbara stuff. And they easily can. An episode or two of Ellie and the PTSD aftermath along with Tommy and his condition, an episode of travel with who knows, maybe some flashbacks / probably Lev and Abby's portion of how they ended up where they were, and two episodes ending with the big fight between the two. That's 6 episodes right there.
Good point, I can see that happening then. Theyve been pretty good on expanding on original game stuff so far.
Bump, need more The Habit burger suggestions, so I can justify a re-visit :)

Oh yeah I forgot, this is one of those games where it was almost required for certain puzzle box rooms.

Super cool feature, I always wondered how people would even beat those without the 3D, since I always had it on max no matter what game.

The extra depth usually showed something that was needed to complete the room.
Used it every single possible second I could tbh. Great unique feature. I feel like most games didnt actually use it that much though, unfortunately.

Lots of games that I played that were 2D most of the time even with the sliders up.
