Whatever. The STEM cult has literally gone into elementary schools and gotten little kids to do coding because "everyone needs to learn coding because reasons." Now the same cult is addicted to pushing AI. It's all a grift.

Which is misguided because the complex AI algorithms require a deep understanding of math. My husband was in charge of an AI group, anybody could do the coding, but the people that were irreplaceable were the math PhDs that worked on the algorithms.
You could just sew up the hole. I mean if its inside a pocket you dont have to worry so much about it being perfect.

Gotcha will give it a shot. It seems like Japan has such a big diversity of cuisines that it might be hard to eat everything I want...my wife and I are planning on eating each lunch at 2-3 places so that we can eat a bigger variety of foods

My wife loves matcha (she makes it at home) so we're probably going to swing by a few places and buy some. I like tempura...but I assume you can get it *with* udon? I'll add and see if there are any dedicated ones

Are you guys used to very hot & humid weather because August is brutal. The last couple of days I was in Tokyo in early July were rough so I cant imagine August.

I love ANA a lot. They might be my favorite airline I've used so far. Sucks most flights are domestic. Never tried JAL yet or Air Do.
I flew JAL because they were flying the A350-1000 on JFK-HND.
Glob posted...
One of their airlines now offers free domestic flights to some of the less touristy areas if you paid more than a certain amount to fly to Japan. I havent massively looked into it but a colleague did it.

I think both JAL and ANA do it. My open jaw was cheaper than just flying into and out of Tokyo. Flying in I took a connecting flight to Hiroshima (I flew out of Tokyo). Also saved on train tickets that way since I was only going in one direction.

family member is a hospital worker and used to go to nursing homes for lab work, apparently one of the more horrifying issues in nursing homes is that some of the residents like to beat the shit out of others. she had a nasty story about one resident bludgeoning an elderly lady into a coma with his cane.
My dad was in a memory care place. Cant say much, but he was beaten by another resident. My mom did get a settlement.
Ask him for my actual order. I am allergic to potatoes so my order wouldnt have fries.

most likely not, not because people wouldn't want to, but because they're too fucking expensive relative to red states
This. I had a friend that was super liberal and was moving to South Carolina. I repeatedly asked her if she was sure, but she was taken in by the cheaper housing.

Now she probably could have purchased a house back here, but just nowhere near as big.

I fell out of touch with her. I wonder how miserable she is now,

Lots and lots of places suffer from overtourism and I just wonder where all these people come from and why their own place is shitty year long that traveling within is not an option even when including the next country/countries over

Some go for shopping - tax free for tourists is plastered everywhere. Chinese especially spend a lot there (including luxury items).

Yep saw them in both Shibuya and Osaka. Hard to miss with the stupid onesies they wear.

Another oft-cited overtourism example is Kamakura Kokomae a tiny station on the diminutive, local, Enoden train line, featured in the popular Slam Dunk manga/anime opening credits. The anime gained bonkers levels of traction abroad, and now the Enoden has been rendered nearly unusable for residents (so packed it is all day long).

Is that on the line that you take from Kamakura to Enoshima? I thought it was just train otaku waiting to get the perfect photo of the train passing by the intersection. All these tripods set up and took photos as the train went by.

Just came back from Japan recently and there is definitely a huge influx of tourists from even 6-7 years ago. Kyoto was like 75% tourists when I visited and most of the tourist attractions had very few local Japanese people. I don't necessarily think this is some huge issue that some people make it out to be but I can see how it hurts a lot of small businesses. I think Japan needs to start promoting some of their other regions to help spread out tourists from Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto since that is where they are mostly all concentrated. Once they can figure that out then I think that will help address a lot of the concerns that they're experiencing an over tourism problem.

They also have to make it easier to get around though. I went to Matsumoto and Omihachiman and there was no Go taxi coverage which made things much harder. Even trying to get to the wasabi farm around Matsumoto google maps was giving me not optimal directions to get there. Luckily I had a website that gave me the correct station to get off at.
Yeah, in Hawaii, the Great Barrier Reef and French Polynesia along with the closer to home Atlantic.

yeah i am thinking it's safer to be there at least 4 to 5 hours there so i don't miss my flight due to checks or random crap happening

I got to JFK 3 hours before my flight to Japan and was through security and in a lounge within a half hour. Even in a lounge 2.5 hours feels like a long time.

i only flew twice but i was escorted on those times so this will be my first solo flight
how much of ahead of time i should be at the airport? 4-5 hours?
3 hours for international. Domestic depends on airport. Some are busier than others.

5-6k roughly. But two kids, car payments, mortgage etc etc. But we usually bring in 8k between the both of us so usually not too tight if other expenditures come up.

Similar spend, but house & cars are paid off.

Income about 3x that though.

Yeah I'm pretty disappointed lol, I suppose I built it up too much in my head. It wasn't even the sweetest melon I've had, and it didn't have a ton of flavor? It tasted much closer to a cantaloupe than a honeydew though

Pros: it smells better than any other melon, its very juicy, and it looks beautiful. I guess a lot of the price tag is abt the presentation which is fair. I did get a lot out of that aspect.

Im also mildly allergic to it which is pretty funny. It makes my mouth itchy like some other fruits do, and the melon juice is making the eczema on my hands go crazy

I dunno im almost like wondering if I got a bad one somehow. People who try them in videos always praise it as the best melon ever. Mine seemed properly ripe based on the texture. Part of me hopes when I try it again later it'll magically be super flavorful. Oh well, I wouldn't have bought it if I couldn't afford it. Thanks for coming to my topic

Or your next allergic reaction is worse. Dude be careful.

You can watch entire seasons of TV, and even play mobile-type games on the chair monitors. But the seats are still small and if you are over 6 feet tall, forget sleeping comfortably.
Business class suite on the A350 is awesome though. I can slide my door closed.

And lay flat.

Flying back from Japan is weird with crossing the dateline. You travel backwards in time. I left Tokyo at something like 3:30 in the afternoon and landed something like 9:00AM that morning.
I leave at 11:05 am and land at 11:05 am.

There are a lot of tourists in the tourist areas. China is a nearby country. Lots of Vietnamese too.

Yeah, you hear that Japan is overrun with tourists on the internet all the time, but you dont realize its not white people that are overrunning it.
Vacationing was so nice; didnt have to hear anything about Trump (yeah there was news, but only in Japanese so I dont know what was going on).

Oh yeah, that earthquake that one manga predicted didnt happen since Im still here.

And OMG were there a ton of Chinese tourists.

And it was fucking hot. I dont remember the last time I sweated so much.

Service is excellent on flight, better than the red eye.

I havent moved in many years so Id love a long term contract that I dont have to bother haggling on every year.
Hope the melon tastes good. It probably will though. Japan doesnt have any cheap fruit it seems, but what they do have it pretty tasty.

Heck I saw a regular watermelon going for $15 in a grocery store there. I only had fruit a few times (lol at $3.50 for 3 strawberries).
Bleach probably
Despite being overall blue, both those states have some very red sections.
Anybody that can get citizenship by descent elsewhere should be working toward getting it.
None, still in Japan doing tourist stuff.
Really thought anime made this stuff up.

But there was a huge line to just high five them. Then the next tier was to get a pic sitting between them. Last tier I saw was a solo standing pic with 1 of the duo.

Me -not often? My teen? Every few months. Everytime I look at it she manages to get a crack line in the protector.

TC, is there a waffle iron where you can make your own waffles? The dessert buffets that have those are always the best.
No there wasnt.

The theme was ice cream. It was called Ice Cream Republic and was at the Tokyo Hilton. Even the few savory dishes were shaped to look like ice cream.

My kids were happy. I couldnt nab Pokemon/kirby cafe reservations so I offered this instead.
I dont think Id travel alone while married. I did travel alone when I was single.
