Which is entirely fucking fair. Don't buy it if you can't justify it. I justified it because I wanted it, have the liquidity, and I'm not getting any younger. I've been steadily increasing my computer's bar for acceptable performance since getting back into the building scene in 2019. The next stop in my incremental upgrade was upgrading the monitor. I don't do any high refresh rate gaming, so image quality took the forefront. Very happy with my purchase.

Now to get home so I can install my 9800X3D. >_>

Yes. There's a growing number of games that require more than 8GB of VRAM to function properly, even at 1440p. It will only get worse from here. The Last of Us Part 1 uses 12GB comfortably at 1440p Ultra with no upscaling. If you can, I suggest trying to get a video card with 16GB. AMD and Nvidia's new offerings will be available Q1 2025. The 3070 is now effectively a 1440p med settings card, and will be a 1080p card by the time 2026 rolls around.

On a sale, it's a very good processor. The 9950X doesn't do enough punching at its weight class to justify the cost over the 7950X. I don't know what its cost to performance is right now, but at launch, the 9950x was terrible value.

I have an 8Bitdo Ultimate 2.4ghz with hall effect joysticks. The thing is super preemo and feels better to use than any other controller I have. Like, actually has better build feel than the Switch Pro controller.

Spurred on largely due to the threat of Trump tariffs. I wouldn't have bought this aggressively otherwise. I bought:

- A new OLED gaming monitor (MSI MAG 271QPX)
- 2 sets of GraniteStone cookware ($99 each; down from $250)
- 2 new sets of mechanical keyboard keycaps + a keyboard wristrest from AliExpress
- A bolt action pen + a new mouse mat from LTT Store
- A 9800X3D (Backordered for 3 weeks; they finally charged me for it)
- Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword + Fire Emblem Engage
- TeamGroup MP44L 2TB M.2 ( Sad that I bought a 2TB SN850X for $13 cheaper 2 years ago)
- The Last of Us Part 1 on PC

A lot more money than I'm used to spending, but this is the reason why I don't spend that much money throughout the year. Also, Trump tariffs.

My Dad was in an LTC for the last 8 years of his life. I hated going to visit him because the slow degredation of his faculties and the reminder of your own mortality is fucking terrible. It sucks seeing your loved ones fade away.

The ambient light is really only an issue if you have direct sunlight or lights directly facing the screen. I just bought an OLED monitor myself. My laptop has a glossy OLED screen. I've had no issues seeing anything in a relatively harsh office light environment.

When I first got it. Then I turned on battery saver mode so it never goes above 80% battery charge.

It's a very fun game, but it's filled to the brim with pointless fetch quests that force you to backtrack constantly. I got fucking annoyed with them by the end of the game. Battle system is great. Characters are fine. The music is unremarkable, but very familiar in a Mana game. The game is fucking gorgeous.

I give it a 7 out of 10.

Turns out that the monitor remembers settings as well. When I switch it to HDR mode, it turns its colour calibration to a user defined one, but in SDR mode, turns to Professional sRGB mode. Very nice. Just need to remember the Windows hotkey to toggle HDR mode when playing games. So far, I'm liking it.

If you recall, I bought the MSI MAG 271QPX 1440p 240hz QD-OLED for Black Friday, as it was $700+tax CAD. It was easily the best deal out of any of the monitors that I've seen, and I wanted to upgrade from my 8 year old 4k60hz LG that had been irritating me for some time. Fired up Cyberpunk 2077, and the colours were very vibrant. Looked damn fucking good. I mean, the black uniformity between my IPS LCD and the QD-OLED is very noticeable, as are the whites. They look, well, white. Less grey. Very nice to see. It has some quality of life features that frustrated me about my old monitor, like height/tilt/swivel adjustment. The bezel size is the same as my old gaming monitor, which is now my secondary monitor. So far, I like it. Here's hoping it lasts for another 8 years. >_>
