44 hours in and at the final boss of Act 2 and man, what a game. I...still cannot believe they only charged $20 for this. That's utterly absurd. Like...I want to give the devs more of my money.

you could always buy it on multiple platforms!
pro tip: do not take a week off this game in the middle of act 2 or you will suck again

that said, I got the grapple thing and it is dope. so glad they force you to learn how it hits enemies

surely it exists, but I still havent found a bellway in the citadel. and I dont wanna walk all the way back to the front gate and beyond to turn in this nail oil lol. so the search continues!

Me, an idiot: Well I've surely done just about everything I can possibly do in Act 2. Let's just start finishing things up and advancing the plot along now

Also me: Hold on you mean there's a whole ass other area over here?!

Maybe I was supposed to get into here through Bilewater first? I've been putting off the last stretch of that area because of reputation. But seriously going in through Memorium it wasn't even obvious there was anything this way and it was a pretty tight jump to get there at all (I am talking about Putrified Ducts in case it's not clear)

You can only get into a small section of the Ducts from Bilewater, most of it has to be accessed from Memorium.

i love cheese. i got the cheesy strats if you want them

busy day today wrapping up act 2 stuff: explored sands of karnak, finished the ingredient quest, beat first sinner, explored wisp thicket, beat the fire god thing. I have 8 masks and a level 3 nail, so I'm going to do Bilewater and search for fleas next. I don't even want to move on yet, so I've been ignoring the middle area of cogwork core just in case.

Part of all this exploring is that the difficulty really hasn't been bad at all. Like sure, I die regularly, but nothing has been super frustrating except that one part of the ducts where you have to let the vines grab you and then do some spike maneuvering to find the flea dude . that SUCKED.

this is probably second to Blue Prince currently in terms of my personal GOTY standings. if there's a new game + option post completion then it might take #1

Also, I got a desk, lights, and painted my house. Next is a personal spa. Luxury!

That one Bilewater boss though, forgot his name (it's the one that appears at the end of an enemy gauntlet because fuck you) will literally eat the cogflies should you get sucked in when he does that attack. Think I had 6 or 7 out at once and they were suddenly all gone lol.
On the other hand if you chuck a bomb at him while he's inhaling he'll eat it and get stunned. Kirby ass interaction.

Anyone know if there's any reason to do the harder delivery quests specifically Mt Fay and Fleatopia aside from if you just need the rosaries?

Ok went back and did Broodmother. I feel like I'm playing just a completely different game from some people in this topic because I specifically consider this a boss that punishes aggression, not a boss that rewards it.

Maybe we're talking about different things when we say "aggression". But if you try and just dish out as much damage as fast as possible against this boss without a care in the world, you're just going to get trapped by the glue or somethingand take 6 masks of damage in seconds flat. If you calm down, hit the little guys when they appear, realize the boss does a random number of lunge attacks every time, and just keep dodging it's not bad at all

I mean Broodmother is a fight that is more arena control dishing out damage for sure. Otoh, I have no idea how you're taking 6 masks of damage when the glue doesn't hurt you and a hit knocks you out of it even if you can't break out fast enough.

Also did the F irst Sinner fight. This one was a great fight. Also one that does kind of encourage aggression imo. Definitely the most use I've gotten out of the dash attack all game.

What crest did you guys use for (late game spoilers I guess) Flea Juggling ? Hunter feels like the obvious choice except an accidental dash will just send you off the edge. The others either have issues with the upswing or in one case it's way too slow.

It may be the best option to avoid dash attack issues, but no force on earth will convince me that at least the upswing isn't shorter than Hunter.

The attack speed is literally necessary for some of the patterns. Just put on longclaw.

Nah, it's pretty obvious they probably do that given that active Tools and spells are gone.

But also A) I tried to see if the razor dress works and it doesn't and B) they do the same thing in the race otherwise the speed upgrade would destroy it.

Yeah the only one where being too slow is an absolute deal breaker for something that seems otherwise great is Shaman because it absolutely won't hit more than one.

So I'm not the only one who struggled with the (late act 2) Shakra duel , right? Feels like I haven't seen anyone talk about this but have to assume it's a combination of it being optional and not having clicked on spoilers sometimes. I feel like this has now accounted for half of my total boss deaths in act 2 and I think there's at most 1 attempt I've even gotten close.

I might have missed it if I didn't already know it was a thing. The game doesn't really tell you about it I don't think, and you have to go to Greymoor to start it which you've probably already explored 100 times over by this point.
I didn't do guru this year but azuarc can be in my sig anyways.
Phew, managed to do it. 17 deaths since I started counting--I'd probably guess up to like 30 total or something. Think the most I died in act on a boss fight before this is like 5-10 times. The act 1 fights gave me more trouble in general, admittedly.

Strategy talk for the above boss fight: If you like consciously try to observe and dodge all of her attacks it's a wasted effort and you're just going to lose because you get overwhelmed. Better strategy is just to blindly dash back and forth which will cause her to miss most of her tool attacks, and then just watch for her dashes which give you a window to hit her. Not really about evasion as much as it is just moving in a pattern and to locations that her moveset struggles to hit, but of course you're never going to identify these patterns quickly. Counter is probably good here if you're better at dodging but I basically always needed to focus on healing. I fully expect someone to say I missed something major. It's possible tool spam is an option here, but I wasn't really going all in on that since the fight doesn't respawn you at a bench.

Having just done Flea Juggle again in my speedrun playthrough my tips are:

  1. Turn off the music so you can hear the sound effects clearly. I also turned off the stream I was listening to as well. As soon as I did this I performed much better. There's no clear visual cue as to which fleas still need juggled or not that your peripheral vision would catch, so you need the sound to be clear.
  2. When the groups of three come in, two of them are going one way and the other (most often the 2nd or 3rd flea is going the other way). You need to make sure that when you hit the one going the other way you change its direction (i.e. hit it while standing to the side, not under it). That way all three will group up and it's easy to get the 2nd and 3rd bounces. Otherwise the one that keeps going in the other direction will probably be uncatchable (if this happens, better to let it fall than risk losing both it and one of your other two).
  3. I used Wanderer because it's the crest I always use, but I think the fast attack animation really helps - means you have more time to walk about. I never sprinted but did occasionally dash, especially between groups.

I might need a hint on where to go in Act 2.

Areas where I've been but don't have the map for include Bilewater (have the bellway station), The Mist, The Slab (have the bellway station), and Mount Fey.

Okay, Sinner's Road still sucks. Bilewater also sucks, but led to a cool section, so I forgive it.

Accidentally finished Act 1. I got to the bellway of Blasted Steps and figured this would be a good time to go back and do all the stuff I hadn't done and then accidentally entered the Choral Chambers via The Mists . Whoops.
Still the number one reason for the success of the Internet.

y'know I think I don't like this (late act 2) Groal the Great fellow.

I feel like the fight probably isn't bad at all, but it comes with the added stress factor of "you just spent 5 minutes climbing back up here you cannot fuck this up, which matters because I'm a low skill player. At least I was already prepared for frustration having seen some some discussion of this part already.

Yeah, people complain about another one ( Last Judge ) a lot but this runback is so much worse than that. Even if you find the very hidden real second bench .

This boss apparently has cheese if you want to look it up. No idea myself. If you want something less cheesy a completely different area does have a passive tool that protects against maggots .

Oh, btw I don't think that's unique per se. Pretty sure any successful hit or parry nullifies contact damage for a few frames. The nature of that attack makes it much more practical to see that used successfully.

Finished the 100% speedrun in 20h36m. It's extremely lenient, even with lots of mistakes - I basically stopped speedrunning after 12 hours because it was so safe. It helps that 100% is quite tightly defined in the game (essentially mask & spool upgrades, tools, crests & skills, weapon, pouch and equipment upgrades and one other thing). I still slightly resent having to play the whole game again to get the platinum, but it was nice to see how much easier it is when you have an optimal path and know what's coming.

It's hilarious how many things do not count as a percentage point.

Bosses dont count. Memory lockets don't count. Tools count but any upgrades to them don't. Sidequests only count if the reward counts. Double jump doesn't count.
