How good is DK Bananza?

Compared to Odyssey, lets say.

I have a couple friends playing and they're all going bananas over it. I guess they're getting mildly grumpy with the post-game content?

I just finished all of the post game content and it was just okay. I had a lot more fun with Odyssey personally.

I'd say Odyssey an 8 and DK a 6.5 for me.

Odyssey's a 10 and Bananza's like a 9 for me right now, I'm a little more than halfway through the main story.

The satisfying sounds and visual effects are astounding, but the level design doesn't have as much variety as Odyssey. There are definitely plenty of interesting moments, but it's mostly a one trick pony that's really really good at that one thing: plowing through the environment with reckless abandon.

Started off as an 8, became a 9 later on, and rocketed to maybe my favorite Nintendo game ever by the end. Hooooly shit. The post-ending high has worn a little though and I've come back to reality. It's basically tied with Odyssey as my favorite Nintendo game, which makes it one of my favorite games period so yeah. It's spectacular.

Agreed that the post-game was lacking compared to Odyssey, but there's still great stuff there too.

I cant play it right now because I dont have a Switch 2, but perhaps some of you who have played it can tell me your thoughts on the following:

The whole young Pauline pop star singer aspect. Good or bad? Because I was actually super on board with everything I saw about the game, and looking forward to getting it one of these days when I do get a Switch 2, but then a lot of the marketing started seeming to me like theyve turned Pauline into Moana, and Im really not so crazy about that.

Eh... Eh. They aren't particularly charismatic as an adventuring duo but it functions well enough to drive the plot forward.

I'm also inclined to say it's not as good as Odyssey but I suspect that may be nostalgia (Already?)

I'm what I think is pretty deep (lol) into it right now and it honestly may be better than Odyssey, albeit in a very different way. Mario is very balanced around his world and vice versa. DK is just straight up overwhelmingly powerful and all the tools you unlock as you go (which are plentiful and very impactful) only make him even moreso. Odyssey is about dexterity and doing sick platforming tricks to get Moons, DK is about just completely fucking obliterating everything in your path in whatever creative way you decide to do it.

The real art is that the game manages to let you do all that without just flying completely off the rails into jank territory - no matter how much you decide to just bulldoze a level it still manages to maintain enough structure to feel like a true blue Nintendo game. Been a long while since I've played a game that feels so purely joyful to sit down and play even for long periods.

the poison jungle area is probably my least favorite area so far I've been in for a few days now, but I haven't had a lot of time to play during the week. Now that it's the weekend I plan to blitz the rest of the game (a little under 50% through)
