Can't decide which one to play next so you guys can pick for me.
Life before death. Strength before weakness.
Journey before destination.
You can seldom go wrong with this series, but I voted for The Wind Waker. Both are terrific.

Link's Awakening since while not as good as the handheld versions, it is still a good game.

If original LA is an option I choose that over Switch.

Why? GB controls are so much worse.
All the stars in the sky are waiting for you.
Haven't played Link's Awakening NX but the GBC version (DX) is really good as it is.

You honestly can't go wrong with Zelda... except for Skyward Snore. (And Wand of Gamelon and its ilk don't count.)

RIP Bob Barker (1923 - 2023) - and thanks for all the memories.
Wind Waker is the best Zelda game and a work of art so that
azuarc wasn't even home. he was playing Magic the Gathering at his buddy's store, which is extremely easy to verify

stop victory lapping around your desk, your chair has rollers, it's not even really exercise
Can't go wrong with either but I'll say...I think I'd rather play the GB/GBC version of Link's Awakening over the Switch version. And I'd rather play Wind Waker HD over the original Gamecube version.

Congratulations to azuarc, the guru of gurus and winner of GotD 2020!
Both solid Zeldas, but my favourite 2D Zelda is LA, so that get's the edge. Having said that, I would still recommend the Switch remake over the original just for the QoL feature of having your sword and shield on a dedicated button alone.
Still the number one reason for the success of the Internet.
How much changed in the Switch version other than graphics? I have played both but it has been a while with the GB version. I remember thinking that more than two buttons would have been nice.

Sword, shield and Pegasus Boots were all assigned to dedicated buttons and you can use the Power Bracelet without equipping. There's also an additional difficulty in hero mode, more river rapid modes, bottles, better fast travel and a tuning fork to find the seashells as well as a couple of other things like the fishing minigame having more fish.
Still the number one reason for the success of the Internet.
Both are fantastic, but I voted Wind Waker.
The azuarc of the contest universe is long, but it bends toward Guruship.
Looks like I'll be playing Wind Waker. Thanks all.

For anyone else thinking about playing LA, the version i recommend is "link's awakening dx hd"

It's pretty much what it sounds like- the dx version, but in hd and with some QoL features. Mainly the text is faster, you can map 4 items to buttons instead of just 2, an auto-save toggle, and if you want you can zoom the camera out farther. That last one is a choice, can be considered bad or too much of a change.

I want to share this because I was replaying dx and the slow text (popping up every time I thought about getting close to touching a jar in particular) and having to constantly go to the menu to swap items was driving me nuts
You did indeed stab me in the back. However, you are only level one, whilst I am level 50. That means I should remain uninjured.

This sounds like the remake is better in every way.

What's the case against?

People don't like the new art style, the price, the photo sidequest from DX is missing and the new content, Chamber Dungeons, kinda sucks. Oh, also the performance isn't great in some areas.
Still the number one reason for the success of the Internet.
I'm not sure I did the Chamber Dungeons, but can't you just avoid them. Price also has nothing to do with the game itself. It's a case against getting it but not against it being better.

Others are fair. I'd say pros heavily outweigh the cons.

Oh for sure, I bought it at launch and love it and definitely recommend it over the original to newcomers.

And the Chamber Dungeons are optional, but there are also heart pieces and maybe a bottle locked behind doing them, so depends on whether you care about 100%ing it. I did them and they're not difficult or anything, just a bit meh.

Just made it through the Forsaken Fortress. Currently my only problem with the game is the inverted horizontal camera control which I can't seem to change.

Oh then I probably did them. I think I got everything.
