Board 8 » Board 8 Experts, Day 10: Ace Attorney (Also, important rules discussion!)
Hello, and welcome to Board 8 Experts, where we figure out who is the expert on this forum for a particular series. To participate, post a list of every game in a series that you have beaten.

The rules:
  • I'm still figuring this out
  • You must have played through a game's entire campaign. 100% completion not necessary
  • The same game for multiple platforms is allowed, but you must have beaten it on every platform
  • DLC campaigns count as .5 of a full game (possible exceptions for something like Shadow of the Erdtree)
  • In the event of a tie, trophies/speedruns may be considered
  • Individual games in a compilation count if they were originally released separately
  • Emulators are not their own category. If you played a game on the SNES, and then later played the SNES emulation of that game, it is only counted as the SNES version.
  • Different routes do not count unless they were separate releases; only one route is necessary to count
  • One nomination per person per topic
Nominations:
2 - Dynasty Warriors
1 - Monster Hunter
1 - Capcom Fighting Games (No SF)
1 - Doom
1 - Myst
1 - Final Fantasy
1 - Yakuza/Like a Dragon
1 - Kingdom Hearts
1 - Metal Gear
1 - Bioware
1 - Atelier

Previous results:

Day 1: Resident Evil
#1: FFDragon (~113 games beaten)
#2: Snake5555555555 (~95)

Day 2: Kirby
#1: StifledSilence (~32)
#2: -hotdogturtle-- (~25)
#3: Johnbobb (~23)

Day 3: Silent Hill
#1: Snake5555555555 (27)

#3: pjbasis (8)

Day 4: Fire Emblem
#1: UltimaterializerX (21)

Day 5: Street Fighter
#1: TheArkOfTurus (39)
#2: Zylothewolf (35)
#3: Lopen (28)

Day 6: Naughty Dog
#1: tazzyboyishere (30)
#2: KCF0107 (25)
#3: Snake5555555555 (24)

Day 7: Castlevania
#1: SHINE_GET_64 (49)
#2: Isquen (~38)
#3: Snake5555555555 (32)

Day 8: Metroid
#1: SHINE_GET_64 (22)
#2: UltimaterializerX (21)
#3: tazzyboyishere (20)
Allegedly played Federation Force: Isquen

Day 9: Ys
#1: SHINE_GET_64 (19)
#2: MacArrowny (12)
#3 (TIE) Big Bob & Janus5k (8)

Looks like SHINE wins for the third time in a row. Also, I get tied for third place! I went on an Ys playing streak a few years ago, but I haven't played any of the older titles.

IMPORTANT RULES DISCUSSION:
Okay, so Dynasty Warriors got a couple of noms, so I was going to do it next. However... I'm not too familiar with this series, and I see that they have a ton of spinoffs that aren't technically "Dynasty Warriors" but still fall under the same mold:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omega_Force#Warriors_games

I didn't want to just pick a ruling and wind up having a large chunk of the board disagree with me, so today's a buffer to discuss how exactly the Warriors games should be handled. While I'm at it, fine print about day 1: FFD and Snake were so far ahead of the pack that I didn't bother to see who was #3 for Resident Evil games. Whoops. It was a distant #3 though.

Today, we have the Ace Attorney series! Feel free to list compilation games as multiple titles, as long as you've played the rerelease in full.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ace_Attorney_media#Main_series

My list:

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice For All
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Dual Destinies
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Spirit of Justice
Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth
Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures
The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve

That's 10 for me, but I've never replayed any of the games, so I doubt I'm placing here.

I'm not doing Nintendo, Leon.

Well, there's two trains of thought with the Warriors series. You either limit it to any game that includes the three kingdoms china characters, or you include all games in the Warriors franchise. The first would limit it to the Dynasty Warriors and Warriors Orochi series, while excluding Samurai Warriors and Gundam Warriors.

I kind of like that idea. I would argue a game like Dynasty Tactics could even be eligible, but I would understand not including it. Then you have the Romance of the Three Kingdoms games, but while those share a similar topic (3 Kingdoms China) and a similar game developer (koei), they are not a part of the "Warriors" series persay, so I guess those would be excluded.

I guess I would say only Dynasty Warriors and Warriors Orochi games, as well as maybe Dynasty Tactics, should be included. But I'd be open to whatever ruling.
Don't mind me. I'm just here for the contest.
Personally I think it'd be more fun to do every Warriors game, but it's definitely a different category.

No replays, alas. There's potential there too, since I'm probably one of the few who played GAA on 3DS :p.
All the stars in the sky are waiting for you.
I would vote to include spinoffs otherwise my number would be 0 as i've never touched the main series, only the anime and nintendo licensed spinoffs

I feel like if we were allowed to include tangentially related Street Fighter games like Puzzle Fighter, it should be fair game for Dynasty Warriors too

I guess what I'm saying is, Dynasty Warriors is a subset of Warriors. You could just do Warriors and have it be all the games, which is my preference, or do Dynasty Warriors, which is a smaller (and less fun) category.

I counted it as the DS version of the game. It's the only way to play the original DS version in English, so it should be allowed.

The fan translation is a different version of the game than the re-release, so it counts.

Uh like all of them except Great Ace Attorney and Layton, but only on one console each.
"You're childish. What are you getting? Are you getting strawberry? Ha! That's such a childish flavor, only children eat strawberry."
I've beaten every game in this series including DLC cases, most games kinda multiple times because of making friends and my wife play through them too.

Too lazy to make the list because I'm in bed about to sleep, but this is definitely a series I'm an expert in.

I think one possible solution that could make everyone happy is to have two separate days (not necessarily back to back) where one is all Warriors games, and then another topic for all 3-kingdoms related games. The first being limited to any game within the Warriors franchise. The second being any game that involves or includes the 3-kingdoms characters.

I've only played mainline Dynasty Warriors games, so I'll look better if you don't count the other franchises, but chances are that you should probably collectively combine all "Musou" games unless you intend on running them separately.

One question for Final Fantasy day - will FF11/14 expansions count as separate entries? I feel like they deserve to, considering their scope.
