This is EXACTLY my opinion. Chien-Pao should be right up my alley as a fast physical sweeper, and a snow leopard at that. But the sword fangs are SO awkward-looking that it bumps it down. Now granted, it'd still do better if it wasn't in a division with two of my top thirty, but that's beside the point.

I also agree with this. Chien-Pao should be cool, but it ends up looking goofy.

Now Wo-Chien, that's a good Pokmon. Cool evil tree snail looking guy.

And the funny thing about this whole conversation is that Chien-Pao would've been one of those underachieving Pokmon until Gen 4 when the Physical/Special split finally makes it good. Even Gen 3 giving it its ability wouldn't help since it gets almost no physical moves.

One is still alive and is popular. I don't dislike/hate a bunch of the popular Gen 1s because of their popularity. I hate them because I despise their design and think they look ugly.

I always liked Starmie quite a bit
A) crush on Misty

I can't blame the newer stuff for not being as loved when the games have been on a downward spiral since Gen 6. I know I'd like the newer stuff better if the games were better.

Scarlet/Violet is legitimately the best generation in the franchise. If they take that as a baseline and flesh out the world more in Gen X, we're in for a VERY good generation.

But you know that's a hot take as the games were nowhere near finished by release and had extreme performance issues. Lack of polish is exactly what that downward spiral is referring too. I mean, I really enjoyed playing them but if they keep releasing games on such a tight schedule then they likely aren't rvrr gonna top what exists. The sad thing is it seems from the recent leaks that their ambition is there.

Anyway, a point I was getting to was that there is a big difference in best games and favorite Pokmon. Gen 9 is among the best with the latter imo, but games to the low end despite high potential. That's not to say I didn't fully enjoy taking three days off to marathon upon release as I have done for the past many generations and will continue to. Less good Pokmon is still good. I agree on the line about Gen X and I really hope they're allowed to go through with their ambitions and won't have to cut down again.

I'm not sure how much I tie them together.

I love Gen IX's Pokemon and like the games. Don't like Gen 8 or SwSh. Find Sun/Moon fairly average and think the same about its Pokemon. Same as Gen 6.

Think 5 and 4 rule.

So yeah maybe I do end up tying the quality of the new roster to my opinion of the games

There's definitely correlation if you like me grow attachment to Pokmon through good playthroughs with them, though from a design standpoint it should not make a difference.
