I enjoyed Remake but felt it was below all the pre-X Final Fantasies. I am not a fan of the new age battle systems but such is life. Ive heard Rebirth is better than Remake. Thoughts?
Depends what you like in a videogame but for me, overwhelming yes.

New age battle system is still there but you at least start off with more stuff, I also replayed Remake right before Rebirth to get back up to speed on it.

Big open environments with optional completionist checklists that give you goodies. Lots of quests. Ridiculously great OST. You'll proabbly pass 100 hours and still not be close to the end if you try doing everything.

Basically I might replay Remake one more time right before part 3 comes out but I don't feel like I want to replay it again whereas I want to get right back into that Rebirth world.
Well I beat Remake twice, second time about two Kirbys ago. I needed a break from it because I played almost 100 hours and did pretty much everything. I assume Rebirth is very similar so Im worried it wont capture me.
To me, Rebirth was better with the character interactions, banter, side quest stuff, and extra activities like Queen's Blood which is great.

I'd say the Remake had a stronger 'main story' but overall I'd probably give the edge to Rebirth being better due to the other stuff.

Rebirth is *largely* a better game. It plays much, much more fluidly and has a lot more party interaction. Everyone's characterization is on point.

There are a *lot* of minigames and they are 50/50 hit or miss, your mileage may vary. They are also kinda constant. Exploration is a huge aspect and each area's pretty damn huge, which is both good and bad.

Man, one chapter has my least favorite part in any game I can think of in recent memory. Absolute torture. It's followed up by the opposite next chapter, the greatest thing I've seen in years. The game is trying its best to be polarizing at times.

But ultimately I'd say its a solid 8.5 - 9 on a good day. I'd call it on par with Remake. It's bigger and more ambitious but some aspects might not be for everyone. It has a *LOT* of content, though. If you want to sink 100+ hours you're in for a good time.

edit: oh and as was mentioned earlier, GOAT soundtrack.

The characters and interactions are very good, but the ending is just complete wackaloon bonkers balls that really kinda screws up the momentum.

So...pretty much like Remake.

Yeah, pretty handily overall. And I like Remake a good deal.

I've about given up on the Platinum at this point. I don't want to pick the game up after this long and fight Hard Mode Demon Wall .

I bet if I was younger I would have eaten up games like Elder Scrolls and Breath of the Wild

But these days I just like my tightly paced shit, definitely a me thing because of my time use sensibilities

I hear you. The older I get, the more commonly I hear that. It makes sense. Ive just never grown out of loving Elder Scrolls and Breath of the Wild. I dont think I ever will!

To me, a game with a world that good should be treated the same way I do with a long-running epic fantasy novel series. Soak, soak, soak. Let it all in. Make it the centerpiece of my at-home free time for a month. Live it.

Its certainly not something I could do if I had kids, though!

MSQ is only about 40 hours, you don't need to do every side mission.

This is absolutely true.

Some of the side quests include spectacular characterization! Not all of em, but a pleasantly high number.

Overwhelmingly no, especially if you're not battle oriented since that part received a lot of elaboration

You'll know if you like it or not in the first 5-10 hours

It's basically Remake but like 5x bigger and more mechanically improved.

Definitely takes you on a roller coaster, tons of ups and downs. Love it for a minute, hate it for a minute, all the way til the end.

Overall I'd say it's a great game (Queens Blood gives it a massive boost) but I haven't touched it since beating it which is unusual for me. I love replaying games.

I loved ff7 rebirth and enjoyed the challenge in Hard Mode, but that boss is the only one I would say was genuinely the fault of the game
Not to be confused with XIII_Minerals.
The only thing Remake has over it is pacing IMO. There's so much side content in Rebirth (including, no joke, circa 30 minigames) that plenty of play sessions will have very little MSQ progress at all if you aim for full completion before advancing. The battle system is given a mega-upgrade on Remake to the point it's hard to go back; the visuals, map and OST are first rate; and the characterisation is as good as in any FF. It feels like a PS1-era RPG in full 3D glory with a real-time battle system.

There are a couple of big missteps but if you at all like modern RPGs or FFVII I'd give it a try.
We are living our lives
Abound with so much information
It feels like Squaresoft. Not Square Enix.
Rebirth : Better side quests, character interaction, combat, music, minigames. All waaay better.
Remake : Much better main plot, and respects your time a lot more.

So it ends up being a tough call, actually.

Not side content since they are required to progress

A small fraction of them are mandatory.

This is apparently a list of the required ones and how much you actually need to do with them to progress.

Damn that's super helpful. So it looks like even the majority of the ones you have to engage with, you're able to skip immediately or just bomb it and move on right away. Some of those are questionably mini games too, like the Yuffie Assassination
That's very helpful

Good thing that unspeakable chocobo gliding minigame isn't one of them.
