really tho what was that with Mae vanishing from what her mom was doing???

I had no idea either until I saw this excerpt from the episode guide on starwars.com :

The fire is already threatening to consume them all, but its Mae rushing in pleading for help that tips the scales. Mistaking her for Osha and grossly misunderstanding Aniseyas stunning maternal act of protection morphing into a cloud of smoke to envelope her daughter in a mystical embrace, Sol makes a fatal error that will haunt him for the next 16 years.

Also LOL at Sol being this huge bungler and basically the entire reason everything goes bad. All because he really really wants Osha as an apprentice for some reason? Don't really get that part at all
I find it kinda bussin, I find it kinda cap
That the dreams in which I'm dying are the ones that kinda slap
Unfortunately this show is very messy, I've got to admit...

Yeah I just don't understand who turns into smoke or whatever when their child just says "Help me!". Like... doesn't even ask with what. Just turns into smoke and doesn't afraid of anything. Also she's in the same room with her, why not just you know... walk over perhaps. Or just ask "what's wrong?". Then you demonstrate an unknown ability in front of strangers, one of which you've already mentally assaulted and then play the sympathy card after you're killed. Everyone else in the room but you was ready to fight against the Jedi also. They're not privy to any of this info... her character was so badly written in this episode.

My theory with Koril isn't over I don't think. It's very possible she could have survived this encounter and again her death isn't shown. Returning to the final episode with just Qimir again as the antagonist will be jarring if there's nothing to tie him to this. I'm still going to run with the idea she's involved with the plot against the Jedi.

lol this episode synopsis is just word salad, I wouldn't take anything it says over what it actually shows on the screen

The witches are not completely without blame. A glimpse inside the mind of young Torbin casts his enchantment in a new light. Bewitched by Mother Aniseya, who seems to reach into his mind to reveal his deepest secrets while controlling his physical form and holding a separate conversation without missing a beat, her hold is more than just a defense mechanism.

yeah of course his deep secret of "I want to go home :(" the thing he literally said aloud five minutes beforehand

I'm still enjoying the show but it really is all over the place. I have no idea how they're gonna wrap all this up in just one more episode tbh

I would bet money on Koril being alive, even if not appearing in the finale.

One reminder I saw though that really helps the episode for me is this

I didn't catch it in the moment, like in my initial post on the episode I was thinking wait sacrifice HUH? maybe they are a danger. Again, just like with the teleportation confusion that I didn't understand, *neither did Sol* so I do like these pieces of the puzzle where they could be earnestly mistaken into concern for a danger that wasn't real.

The execution still isn't great though like, the fact that I didn't catch on to these bits isn't good, and even still Sol's specific insistence on OSHA is baffling

As someone tho who got my mom in trouble with CPS because of confused answers I told a teacher of mine tho I do like the angle of Mae accidentally tipping the Jedi's misguided actions

How did breaking the witches' hold over Kelnaca result in all of their deaths anyway? And how did the power of ONE overcome the power of MANYYYYYYY??? These things require explanation and I'm not sure the last episode will even have time to explain it.

I can get that quote as in from the perspective of the Jedi code maybe. But still they say Indara didn't know it would result in deaths so I can hardly blame her trying to snap out Jedi from mindcontrol. Plus, Kelnacca is actually 100% innocent in all of this so helping him should be proper course of action. If Sol or Torbin got mindfucked then yeah screw 'em for causing it.

The more that I think about it, the more that flashback sequence relies on so many people holding the idiot ball. The worst is Aniseya threatening the Jedi and then being like "oh by the way we were going to let Osha go with you" when Sol accidentally kills her (and it makes no sense for him to activate his lightsaber in that situation either). Like this whole situation is avoided if you just tell Sol up front they were letting Osha go with them.
http://i2.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/001/080/145/638.png
That does not actually resolve the situation because her other mom is still violently opposed

also Sol did not accidentally kill her? He does it on purpose because he sees scary force magic. that's why he activates the lightsaber.

The whole sequence was very weird. And it may not even be how it actually played out in reality. The whole episode is put into question because of the differences in the parts from the other flashback episode. (I forgot what it's actually called)

but like why would he think his lightsaber would do anything against scary smoke monster magic and why does it work anyway

also his reaction doesn't really strike me as he meant to do it on purpose

Koril can be mad all she wants, but if she's the only issue, the other witches can deal with her or it's only one person the Jedi have to deal with instead of it becoming a mass slaughter for no reason
http://i2.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/001/080/145/638.png
the fact that the stab worked is the weird thing for me.... she was smoke, and her smoke had already moved forward and what was left during the stab wasn't really visible

but I'm fine with Sol attempting, it's an instant reaction on a mysterious danger... I don't take it as he didn't mean to do it, but that he's very confused at what was happening

but yeah the teleport itself is like a video game animation where the character doesn't actually move from their position until the animation is complete lol

Yeah, my take on it was that he thought she was potentially starting the 'sacrifice' that Mei talked about.
But yeah, bit of a comedy of bad decisions from all angles to lead up the final outcome.

It's just weird that they didn't establish the smoke move previously in a neutral setting such as one of the flashbacks when the girls were younger or something.

It's like, let's just roll out this confusing new thing to the audience with no explanation in a pivotal moment and assume we'll know wtf just happened.

I think this is the point considering the pov characters are the Jedi and they also don't know what the fuck is happening. I still think it is just like...visually sloppy and confusing even given that framework, like you have people confused on consequences of Trinity's actions but yeah.

I will say, force witch magic being confusing and unexplained vague smokey shit is continuing the proud(?) tradition established in Clone Wars that this series is taking inspiration from, lol

complicated thoughts but I enjoyed the climax. Sol vs Stranger was cool, as was Osha taking the saber and it going red during the choke . Maybe the start as a bit slow I was getting concerned, which is kinda common for short D+ series. Grrrrr getting teased on what the fuck the vergence thing's about - they were split, okay, now what? What's the big deal? Would the Jedi overlook Sol's actions over that? Annnnd I guess that mystery dies with Sol

I also don't understand Mae staying behind and quickly going like okay let's mind wipe huh... why can't they go together. Honestly I assumed when she's left behind they'd at least pretend she's Osha but I dunno... why are we surrendering Mae???

lol all blamed on Sol yeah expected and lame. "I believe he ended his own life" ahahahahahah. We really needed more Vernestra development to pull this off and explain why she would do this cover-up. We get that she was the Stranger's master but what about that?

ultimately tho

yeah I enjoyed it it's just uhhhh like they're angling for a S2 right? that's the only way this ending makes sense. in retrospect, this explains a lot of the intensely weird structure of the show, I came in thinking this would be a one-and-done season but it increasingly seems like that was not actually the plan. either way I enjoyed the show for what it is, even though it kind of feels like a bait and switch. like, the entire show is structured around the twin swap and Osha falling for Evil Jason from The Good Place and you can't give that away so instead they presented it as a mystery.

and of course I cannot BELIEVE FUCKING PLAGUEIS IN A CAVE??? what are we doing here lmao what the fuck is this show

Mini lightsaber! They continuously come up with new lightsaber variations!

The rest of the episode was quite underwhelming to me.

Why couldn't Mae just have gone with them and trained together? "I will find you." Uhhh, you already have her, and you're leaving her, for no good reason. It just doesn't make any sense.

Also, yes Sol killed their mom, but it was in self-defense to a smoke maneuver. This wasn't blatant intentional homicide. Does anyone care? I guess not.

The Plageuis and Yoda reveals were...nice... but this series ended on a bad note for me. I'll still watch Season 2 whenever it comes out, but this show definitely peaked for me somewhere in the middle.

I must say I did not end up caring for Mei... or Osha, or even Qimir by the end, if that even is his real name. The only compelling morally gray characters that I was actually taking a shining to are all dead now. And what the hell was with that scent tracker alien sabotaging Sol's ship and causing both aircrafts to hurdle out of control? Is he a mole? Not like the animal with poor eyesight and a great sense of smell, I mean like is he an actual spy? The heck was his deal? If there is a season 2 I'm invested enough that I'll still watch it to see if any of these mysteries are resolved, but based off my husband's reaction to the finale, I Mei be watching it Solo.

I will consider watching it just for this pun.

But yeah, suffice to say, I'm not happy. I usually don't watch current shows while they air because I find it difficult to make the time. And when I did make the time for this one, yikes... I just have a lot of regrets about it. I just don't get what I'm supposed to feel towards Mae. I am supposed to dislike Sol because he made a mistake killing their mother? I've already gone through why I think that was stupid. It's like Mae as a character was written to divert any blame that would fall on her directly to the Jedi. Even before the fire and Jedi incident, Mae seemed like a horrible little brat to me. Almost as if Osha wasn't allowed to be on her own because she didn't want that. Like just because they were supposed to be sisters, one of them wasn't allowed to do anything else. Who would want someone like that in their lives? And there was no progression to her character beyond that point, except one of her final lines. Sorry but no fuck you, it's too late now.

I've loved having Lee Jung-jae in Star Wars so I'm sad to see him out already but the writing's been on the wall for that one so yeah. Pushing his obsession with Osha was weird but I don't at all blame him for stabbing the mom in that moment.

This ending was very weird, kinda like the rest of the show. I heard there was a lot of interference behind the scenes and I think it totally shows. Like from everything I've seen, this was a one off, but the ending left so much open and obviously sets up for a season 2. So now if we don't get a season 2, I'll kinda be annoyed, regardless of its quality.

I really thought Osha and Mae were going to do the smoke thing and combine into one person. They also made that fact, that they were two halves of one being, seem really important and then did nothing with it and randomly memory wiped Mae and left her with the Jedi??? But I will say on a positive, that her bleeding onto the Kyber crystal and then it changing to red was fucking cool as hell. And this show in general had some of the best live action combat that SW has seen.

The strength of the show was definitely the fight choreography. So many really cool fights, and yeah, I'm not a superfan but from what I have seen of Star Wars not much comes close to it.

I still don't hate the show, I'm just disappointed in it I guess. I felt like the premise itself was a great idea, and there's an interesting story that could have been told. They just sort of failed in telling it in a way that made me happy. Another thing I was thinking about is Osha's decision to kill Sol. Like, I want to like Osha as a character and I did up until these last episodes. She's resented Mae for most of her life, but several times she spares her life. Even though Mae wasn't totally responsible for their mother's death, she still destroyed their home and in terms of the entire situation, certainly didn't help matters much. But Osha never pulled the trigger on her. With Sol, less than a minute after learning the truth and without hearing his side of the story, murders him. I just didn't like it. I get the "turned to the darkside" aspect or whatever, failing to control her emotions, but it just sucked in my opinion.

Another thing about Osha is that her relationship with Qimir is really questionable... he abducts her, after murdering people she seemingly liked, but without much development they're friends now. And I don't really get Qimir's angle much either. What is in it for him to have gone so far out of the way for her? Is he that desperate for a student of his own? Osha's character in the final 2 episodes (not counting flashback episode) just felt so rushed to me.
