this is pretty twisted

he opens his door to Lillie & Gladion, not recognizing either of them as his children, nor Lusamine coming in behind them. He's confused the kids call him dad and Lusamine calls him by his name (that he recognizes).

he invites them in, they say they're looking for their father, he goes huh that's neat I have a daughter named Lillie myself! he brings them to her bedroom and there is another Lillie playing the piano - but the rest of the family can see this is a Nihilego, as Lusamine quickly revolts having previously been abducted by one.

Dang Pokemon, that's pretty dark.

... so far I just have shiny odds at the original 1/4096 but uh that is probably insane for something like this. I could add a shiny charm item somewhere, definitely would have to think about where (gambling prize?). Could make a Shiny Sandwich channel points redeem. Outbreaks / Encounter chains would be way more work than I'm interested in. Masuda Method for sure but honestly just any trade not specifically foreign trades

but still I feel like I should definitely bump the base rate up. for the record so far there's been 555 Pokemon spawned out of all on-stream gameplay or personal bug testing gameplay

The original odds were 1/8192. It was Gen VI or VII that cut that in half, I think.

I knew they wouldn't actually treat Ash as the 8 seed!

"We want him to be the lowest seed so he is a big Underdog even though he is a champ who recently beat the 7 seed". "But then he would need to beat Leon in round 1?" "Nah, just ignore the seeding for Ash and swap him and the 6 seed".

So really Ash is the 6th seed but they want him to look like a bigger Underdog so the show is lying to the viewers. I'm just going to claim this is an unreliable narrator.

overall I prefer Ash vs Cynthia, but the final attack is definitely epic af - preceded by Pikachu getting knocked down, having like a dream of all the Pokemon Ash caught over the journey cheering him on (grouped by series they were caught in), and then up comes the final face-off Ash's Pikachu vs Leon's Charizard with the original Pokmon Theme playing to build-up

fight yeah eh, Cynthia brought more strategy that kept me engaged with. kinda um "odd" that Ash's final champ battle bends the rules - the announcer is saying okay trainers have a choice of 1 Mega, Z-Move, or Dynamax to use and Leon's just like laaaame let's have it all!

which like yeah cool to do one of each of the final battle.... but Leon is only capable of Dynamaxing. Go in thinking hey maybe he can use multiple Dynmaxes... and he does, technically. Two. Eternatus comes and lets everyone Dynamax a 2nd time...... so uh so does Ash, a second time. It just feels like Ash's big win is with a handicap - Gigantamax Gengar, Mega Lucario, 10 Million Volt Thunderbolt, and Gigantamax Pikachu vs Gigantamax Charizard & Gigantamax Cinderace

ftr Ash's other pokemon were Dracovish, Dragonite, & Sirfetch'd, all Pokemon he caught this series only. Leon: Cinderace, Inteleon, Mr. Rhyme, Dragapult, Rillaboom, Charizard

honestly could not give a rat's ass about Dracovish

also also - the battle started Pikachu vs Cinderace, with Leon using a Ground attack then mentioning Cinderace's ability Libero turning its typing into Ground with that attack. Ash switches out, so does Leon, so you kinda right away figure it's gonna come down to Pikachu vs Cinderace in the end with that in effect.

It kinda does, Ash's Pikachu is last standing against Charizard & Cinderace. Cinderace comes out and... doesn't do it again. y'know that dangerous anti-Pikachu technique that forced him to switch out at the start. it really feels like Leon handed this match to Ash

when the ending of an episode completely wins me over the rest of it - 2nd last episode of Journeys, the Latias that's been following Ash/Misty/Brock during this mini-arc comes out and saved him last episode, and this episode shows a Latios in trouble the gang go save

anyways, the ending, the Latias & Latios fly away somewhere and Ash & the game talk about it, "I wonder where they're going", "somewhere safe", then we get a scene of the Latis flying away to their home in Pokemon Movie 5 (Heroes), with the girl that Latias likes to transform into, Bianca, is waiting there

soooo this Latias was the Latias that kissed Ash in the movie, wish Ash recognized her earlier! always happy to get movie connections, which the show has definitely given up for forever by now lol

annnd held off on posting til I watched the final ep as well - I'M DONE! Jan 13th to May 8th to watch Ash's entire journeyyy. actually I may be able to finish what's available of Horizons too brb

but finale episode itself eh it's fine, doesn't really feel like a big fanfare. Team Rocket snags Pikachu, Ash doesn't have anyone else with him, Pidgeot returns to save the day which oh hey buddy nice. Gary asks Ash what he needs to do to become a Pokemon Master now that he's become Champion and Ash wonders the same thing. Episode ends with Ash's mom going to wake him up and he's already left for an unknown new journey.

furious that Serena only had ONE episode in Journeys (they showered her one other time cheering for Ash's championship match with no lines). just that one episode I mentioned earlier where they don't even meet up until the very end as Ash goes. BULLSHIT. Every other partner across Ash's journey has had an episode with him but Serena's the one they skimp out on? booooooo. When I saw that episode I thought okay there's many more to come surely they'll bring Serena back for more but NOPE and I hate it

bit confused, Bulbapedia says eps 13+ aren't dub broadcast yet but I've finished that and now see there's at least 28 episodes dubbed *shrug* googling I guess the issue is Bulbapedia specifically lists it as "US broadcast" and I guess that's specifically meaning Netflix batches? if so wow Netflix sucks why is it so far behind, even the next batch in a couple days won't catch up to what's actually broadcast in English

as for the show ehhhhhh disappointed so far tbh. it really doesn't feel like much of a Pokemon show, I DESPERATELY miss journeys with a goal and this many episodes in there really isn't any. I didn't expect the show to be so spread out across a bunch of characters, not even just Roy but a whole ass team of the Rising Volt Tacklers, 6 whole ass people with varied levels of engagement, but Friede is certainly a big player and it's like wtf you're an adult

I wish they'd just cut it to the trio of starter kids - Liko, Roy & Dot

and yeah so far I don't really get anyone's goal. what are the Rising Volt Tacklers... for? there's a few mysteries about the Ancient Pokeballs and Liko's pendant but it doesn't seem to be what they're actually about, Liko & Roy are stumbling more into it on their own like oh Liko's dad made an art book of a black Rayquaza he heard in tales and that's what came out of Roy's mysterious Ancient Pokeball or whatever

Just now went back to dug up the last Journeys special tho, Distant Blue Sky... and oh wow it's an incredibly heartwarming episode. Like this is probably my favourite Special? Man, jI feel like I'm being too down on Horizons maybe from watching so much but then I see this and I'm just like nah this here is a good episode.

also has a tease of Ash seeing his dad lol, and a nice gag about a Mankey stealing a hat again. But overall this ep's a tearjerker, Ash even really nails the emotions which is pretty rare with him kinda being an aloof Goku all the time. This is such a better send-off to Ash than the Journeys finale was, even nudged his design juuuust a bit closer to his original which I wasn't expecting for a one-off special

still gotta watch Twilight Wings, Hisuian Snow, Paldean Winds, then I guess Concierge tho

My infinite fusion is going alright. I'm at the SS Anne. Made it to Mt Moon without anyone fainting, but that damn cave wiped out most my team so now there have been a lot of fusions forced since then.

I had forgotten how little variety of types there are early in Red/Blue. So many normal/bug/flying/poison fusions.

Brock's gym is wild for Charmander trainers, particularly in Red/Blue since like the only thing you can catch that isn't resisted is Butterfree's Confusion

Yellow at least gives the Nidos Double Kick muuuch sooner (from lv43 down to lv12) and puts Mankey in Route 22 (... also uh giving it a Fighting move, because in R/B it only learns Seismic Toss lv33 lol).

at least tho Let's Go games Rattata learns Bite which is now Dark as well so that's another. FRLG Charmander getting Metal Claw at 13 is also crazy.

you might remember a few nights ago he came back after like a 5-6 night stay in toronto that ended up with a hospital visit as he came back bloodied & beaten

4 days later, this thursday night, he leaves again lol despite having an appointment with our family doctor tomorrow we're expecting a call for in the morning

literally just left ~11:15 (note yes he's still under curfew bail conditions to be here by 11) so gdad's a nervous wreck about it now realizing what he just did. he's apparently back with his ex, who literally has multiple ongoing charges against him (one of which being a breach of bail condition not to see her anymore that she reported him on last year, a bail condition for a different charge she put on him late 2022) so yeah gdad is furious - not just as a dad who doesn't wanna see their son go to jail, but also on the hook as gbro's surety who is actually supposed to report lest he forfeit I think it was a 10k bond to keep him from jail during the court process

also yeah as much as I say gbro is a horrible horrible person, he very much picks his girls to match because this "ex" has some sorta stabbing fetish, she's a russian white nationalist afraid of CRT infecting Russia. gbro's been stabbed numerous times from her already, even learning how to stitch himself up for it, so it's very much likely his recent bloody incident over the weekend was from her, and yeah she actually has charged him starting this whole situation and she already did the thing where she says it's okay and forgives him and then calls the cops that he broke his no-contact agreement so like uh obviously that'll just happen again and this time gbro would be entirely out of rope to keep himself from prison

meanwhile me and gsis are of course just of the feeling like yeah he's gonna do what he wants to do, our parents should understand it's already a foregone conclusion. there is absolutely no scenario in which he reigns himself in from this shit
