It finally made me straight up cry with the most recent episode. But it's truly one of the best shows ever created.

I haven't watched The Sign yet, waiting to watch with some fellow Bluey friends, but I've already cried from multiple previous episodes (Onesies and Dragon in particular) so I'm fully ready

I'm not all caught up on the show yet, but it's definitely got me a few times.

Its quite possibly the best show for young kids ever made while also being entertaining for older audiences as well. Like its genuinely good. Its colorful, creative, funny and the dad is a great role model even when hes playing a dummy to entertain his kids instead of just being a stereotypical idiot fat dad character like most cartoons.
I watched the first four or five episodes and didn't really see what people were talking about. I was like, yeah this is pretty cute and definitely better than most of the trash kids are watching these days. But I definitely didn't consider it better than the shows I grew up with at all.

I'm guessing by how much praise it gets, that the episodes get better? But I find that a bit hard to believe considering how short they are.

No yea it's definitely further in they start hitting with the harder episodes.

Also Bandit is also an idiot fat dad but in a good way

Yeah the first ten or so episodes set up the family dynamics and then they start throwing the life lessons and emotional resonance around.

I haven't been watching things in order, but Season 3 seems to have gone hard on making parents emotional.

I would say if you don't have kids of your own, it's not going to hit as hard. Some of Bluey is childhood nostalgia and some of it is parenting reality.

I'm not a parent and undecided if I want kids with my partner (he doesn't want kids atm) and it still absolutely hits me but maybe I'm a lil bitch

I think part of the problem for me is that because episodes are like 7 minutes long, it's really difficult to get invested in the message each episode is giving. But maybe I'll try and give it another shot at some point.

Good news for you then, the new one is 28 minutes long!

I think the fact that they can boil an episode down to 7 minutes so consistently is pretty impressive!

When's the last time you actually sat down and watched some preschooler-targeted shows from your childhood?
Congrats to 2020 GotD Guru champ azuarc!

I definitely agree that I am not generally a fan of the 7 minute format at all.

But I think Bluey has figured out how do as much with it as humanly possible.

Well the show is apparently terrorism, so I'd say so!

I haven't watched the newest drop but I did watch The Sign and the one before it. And yep, I cried. What an absolute banger of a song god damn. Brandy got pregnant! And Winton's dad got with the Terrier's mum! So many payoffs in The Sign, god damn god damn. And because Bluey episodes are usually 7 minutes, it's wild to see how MUCH they can put in with 28 minutes, felt like a movie's worth of stuff happened!

I only just watched Daddy Dropoff, and yeah that one is straight up terrorism. It's like the inverse of the tarantula Breaking Bad episode, but set up and delivered in 7 minutes. Absolute megaton.

My favorite by far though is Copycat, though no one really talks about it. I get the appeal of the most popular ones like Camping and Sleepytime, but they don't really have the parent-seeking-missile effect that the subtler episodes have.

The episodes are super varied, so eventually a couple hit you, and then you get it.

But also, the show is almost entirely for parents. I would say like 70% for parents, 20% for kids, 10% for animation nerds. I don't really get watching it otherwise. To be fair I did watch Friendship is Magic as an adult. But that's just a nice slice of life comedy cartoon, while this is a series of brutal parenting lessons. Many episodes aren't even comedic. I guess if you have unresolved childhood trauma it would also apply, and who doesn't.

Also among my friends with kids, about half of them didn't get into the show at all. Whereas 100% of kids are into actual kid shit like Cocomelon and Paw Patrol (god that show sucks)

So good, it's made me cry multiple times and I'm not even through half the episodes. Will probably sneak-watch The Sign with all the buzz it's getting!
