God of War very smartly transitioned from edgy badass pathos to somber dad pathos, which was trendy at the time. And of course the marketing was flawless in explaining to people how different the game was and how "evolved" and "modern" and "grown up" it became. It really sold itself as a 2020s game.

XVI marketing seemed really weak in general. I don't know anything about the characters, conflict, overall pathos. It's GoT-ish, but after season 8? They forgot that no one actually cares about the political parts of GoT, only about the boobs and violence, and most importantly, the somber dad main character.
