Pet Semetary was a terrible disappointment. The screenwriter (guess who...should not be writing his own adaptations) thinks he's writing a serious horror story about the consequences of refusing to accept death as a natural part of life, while the director and cast seem to think they're making something campy like Re-Animator, and the result is a tragic mess. All of the pieces of a great horror story are here, but they're just jumbled up and let down.
This story would be a lot shorter if somebody would just put a goddamn speed limit sign on that road, or make better zoning laws.
