I heavily disagree, I think some of the most well-written and fleshed out characters in gaming are from the 2010s. I think maybe there's a point to argue that the characters haven't had a chance to reach "iconic" status yet but that doesn't make it a weak decade.
I'm a little biased against normal, humans
Okay, fair point, as I did mostly have "iconic" in mind. I'm a little biased against normal, humans. Ellie and Lee are good characters but their design is boring and not memorable compared to a Kratos or Dante, much less a Mario or Sonic.yeah, if your standard for good character is mascot platformer, newer characters aren't gonna do it for you as much
Looks like they didn't make either of the 2000s brackets, so should be eligible based on release dates outside Japan?
Dusa (Hades)
Chloe Price (Life is Strange)
Wheatley (Portal 2)
Aloy (Horizon: Zero Dawn)
Amicia de Rune (A Plague Tale: Innocence)
Cadence (Crypt of the Necrodancer)
Dana Iclucia (Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana)
Emily Kaldwin (Dishonored...technically 1)
Handsome Jack (Borderlands 2)
Hat Kid - A Hat in Time
Henry (Firewatch) -- or Delilah if people would prefer
Jesse Faden (Control)
Knight, The (Hollow Knight)...aka The Vessel
Lady Dialla (Path of Exile)
Leah (CrossCode)
Malady (Divinity: Original Sin 2)
Ori (Ori and the Blind Forest)
Rachel Amber (Life is Strange: Before the Storm)

I'm assuming Mass Effect 1 was pre-2010?
Looking over the nominees, Amicia de Rune may legitimately be my favorite character of the decade
