the only time it would make Kermits was if I included a gag about Blue Link looking up longingly. If I removed Link it stopped trying with Kermit

I think the issue with Kermit and Luigi is that there aren't "realistic" and the AI freaks out trying to make chiseled and well-defined stone heads of things that are too animated

why is Hercules so popular btw? Is it just off the back of the Disney movie?

Having been to both Greece and Rome, I can say he's all over the place in both Greek and Roman art, and he's maintained a substantial cultural cachet thanks to endless Greco-Roman mythic and artistic revivals for the last 700+ years.

first two feel like locks.
last two i'm unsure of. Cerberus is very frequently used for a guard beast, hound of hell, etc but the Harpy is being slept on; those half bird half woman creatures are used in regular language to this day, they're with countless variations in just about every action game and a bunch of RPGs. out of all the monsters i think they're the #1 for greek myth, even more so than Cerberus or Centaurs, who i'd say are #2, largely because i don't give sirens the credit for mermaids.

I'm surprised the first three aren't locks for most voters, they're basically the "big three" of Greek Mythos. Ares only gets the fourth spot because of God of War.

Ill be honest, definitely feels like there should have been separate Rushmores for figures and creatures.

Rushmores are implicitly about variety. It'd be very boring to just use Google Trends and just pull the four most known examples without any other consideration

Eh, Rushmore debates are generally about the best, most popular, or most important. Variety is a secondary concern and should only come into consideration if the options are relatively equal.

Still say everyone leaving off Hercules is wilin'

It's not so impossible!
Also IMO there's some SFF between Zeus and Poseidon, and Zeus is just typically more prominent in most adaptations.

again, Mt Rushmore was explicitly designed with variety in mind. even without xonsideration, choosing only gods for representing Greek mythology seems to really miss the point of Greek mythology

Yes, Rushmore itself was designed with that in mind.

But Rushmore debates in sports for instance are just about who was the best, most important, etc.

I mean you had people leaving off Tom Brady so I don't know what logic people use for these things sometimes. I picked the ones who were best or most influential.

Representation for me is a secondary concern, but I get why people care about it.
