Disclaimer: Included Deadpool in the 8 since he's one of the most iconic characters in the franchise currently, even though idk if people still associate him with the X-Men really

Feels like Gambit will dominate this poll because of the 90s cartoon

Scarlet Witch gets an MCU boost but like Deadpool I doubt mainstream associates her with X-Men too much anymore.

I'm personally going Gambit. Rogue's close though.
I've decided to put my fears behind me. I'm not going back.

Is the top 8:
  1. Deadpool
  2. Wolverine
  3. Cyclops
  4. Storm
  5. Beast
  6. Jean Grey
  7. Professor X
  8. Magneto

I think he'll do well but not dominate, but I could be wrong

Yeah, without the modern MCU boost I wouldn't have included her in the poll at all and would've put in Kitty Pryde or something. But unlike Deadpool I feel like modern movies aren't enough to skyrocket her to the top so I figure she's fair game

Yes, although the order I had in my head was

  1. Wolverine
  2. Professor X
  3. Magneto
  4. Deadpool? He's hard to rank with the others
  5. Cyclops
  6. Jean Grey

Wouldn't it have been easier to just do a second most iconic character poll using that list minus Wolverine?

Deadpool is very hard to rank with the others, I think I'd personally put him third at least though he has potential to be second.

Voted Mystique because of the look. She's pretty identifiable to anyone with limited knowledge of the source material (e.g. Me)

Yeah that would've been pretty competitive I think? Though I would've voted Professor X even as first most iconic...
All the stars in the sky are waiting for you.
It's really tough between Rogue and Gambit. I'm biased toward the latter since he was my favorite in the 90s and likely has the more recognizable look, but I feel like Rogue has "held up" better. I see her mentioned all the time online as a crush back in the day. Everyone had googly eyes for Rogue.

For what it's worth, I think Gambit and Rogue both rival Beast (and maybe even Jean) in overall popularity/iconic status.
Burnin, Blazin
My gut says Mystique, as basically the second most relevant Brotherhood character and someone with a lot of presence in the movies

then maybe Iceman, followed closely by Nightcrawler/Colossus

I love Gambit, but he was very prominent for a specific period of time and otherwise just isnt as relevant as the others here.
For your Azuarc .
At least Kupo has class and doesn't MESSAGE the people -Dr Pizza
Rogue outranks Beast and she's like Storm level. Deadpool ain't regular X-Men.
Last finished: Castlevania: Lament of Innocence (PS2) (All Characters, modes and items), Clock Tower (SFC) (All endings).
my efforts to avoid a one-sided poll were in vain lol

Yeah, I'm not surprised the X-Men people remember most (and most fondly) is the 90s show. I remember catching shade when I asked about the possibility of Gambit in MvC3, with the hardcore comic fans calling him "90s trash."

TAKE IT, NERDS.
Burnin, Blazin
In my head I thought 90s cartoon core 9 and ordered them

Had

Wolverine
Professor X
Cyclops
Storm
Jean Grey
Gambit
Rogue
Beast
Jubilee

Then I read phrasing in topic question and you include all so obviously Magneto and Deadpool slot in there around Cyclops/Storm level. So it's either Gambit or Rogue I think. I went with Gambit to give wiggle room that Mystique or Juggernaut or like Iceman slot in there too.

Hail 90s trash.
No problem!

idk how more people aren't voting for Scarlet Witch unless they're completely separating her from the MCU
It's Reyn Time.
Either Scarlet Witch is too loosely X-Men to count as an X-Men character or she's top 8 imo

not reading yet

Wolverine
Xavier
Magneto
Cyclops
Jean Grey
Mystique
Rogue
Beast
... Nightcrawler or Gambit hmmmm

was thinking Colossus after

but then I remembered Storm who would bump 9th out anyways so

I wasn't really considering Deadpool because my mind keeps him separate but I mean we're not actually talking "x-men" anyways so oh yeah he'd be in too damn. he should be easy #4 so then that makes Beast my answer

lots of 90s babies in here voting for Gambit despite him not being relevant since 2009, longer if you don't count X-Men Origins Wolverine

I guess that cartoon is definitively the X-Men for most ppl tho

I agree with the top 7, but I'm not sure Beast is clearly above Colossus/Nightcrawler/Rogue/Iceman (Gambit is honestly not as high anymore).

Scarlet Witch is hard to compare post 2015 but if she's up there it's certainly not under that name.

IMO Nightcrawler, people care about him the most and he's gotten a lot of play in various media, more so than Gambit has since the 90s cartoon

Marvel also keeps trying to make him "work" and keep him relevant in the comics, again more so than Gambit

however that doesn't matter much because all people think of is the 90s cartoon anyway

EDIT: I also think we are all thinking in terms of mainly people in our generation; a lot of older fans cared a lot about Nightcrawler by the time the 90s cartoon came out and "redefined" X-Men

I know basically nothing about superheroes except the most superficial stuff. I had no idea who Gambit was until I googled him and saw a shot from the cartoon. Scarlet Witch would be the obvious choice, but I had no idea she was ever related to the X-Men. Ended up voting Nightcrawler since the design is very easily recognizable and memorable to me, but I guess I could've voted for Mystique for the same reason - although the only reason I know of her is from when J-Law played her and that was kind of a big deal ten years ago.

Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are very weird. Sometimes they're Mutants, sometimes they aren't, sometimes they're Magneto's children, sometimes they aren't (I'm not even positive where it lands in the current comic canon)

I believe they were the only characters that both Fox and Disney held the rights to for a while there because of the weird inconsistency

The Scarlet Witch thing is weird because the MCU couldn't even call her that until recently so a lot of MCU fans may not even recognize that name

90s is when X-Men was by far the most relevant to the population at large. The cartoon, video games, they were everywhere.

This would be like people arguing The Rock or Steve Austin should be discarded for CM Punk or The Miz from the wrestling one.

Frankly I would argue Gambit is being fairly knocked down a peg to be considered for 9th. He's easily top 8 if just considering 90s.

As for Scarlet Witch you have 3 possibilities

1. Despite being an X-Men character, people do not associate her with X-Men (she has had zero appearances in non-comic X-Men media so this is fair. Though in comics I believe she debuted as part of the brotherhood of evil mutants and "no more mutants" is probably her iconic comic moment)

2. She is easily top 8 from MCU fame

3. She would be top 8 from MCU fame but that's "Wanda" who is Scarlet Witch

Personally I think it's the first option but she is never number 9 in any case.
No problem!

Deadpool you have kind of a similar thing but he leans into X-Men enough that I think it's just scenario 2 for him and replacing MCU with Deadpool movies and just general pop culture meme fandom.

Beast is a weird one for me. I know hes iconic because one of the originals plus the animated series, but I heard Beast becomes a colossal piece of shit that nobody including readers even seems to like. Wouldnt really hurt his iconic factor in that regard, but hes probably by far the most hated of the X-Men if I had to guess?

Yeah, Deadpool at least has appeared with other X-Men in the movies, so I think he counts for the purposes of this poll.

Looking up Scarlet Witch's comics appearances, despite debuting in X-Men, the vast majority of her appearances have nothing to do with the X-Men (and she only made a handful of appearances before she quit the Brotherhood and went off to become an Avenger). Of her 60 years of existence, it looks like there was really only one decade around the '00s-'10s that she had strong ties to the X-books (which ends around when she made her MCU debut).

I don't remember if she had anything to do with the X-Men cartoons.
Change is weird.
I think if you mean just as a character, at all, Scarlet Witch wins because she gets carried hard by the MCU, but obviously I don't think most people who recognize her now recognize her as an X-Men character

Mystique, Nightcrawler, Colossus and (not on the poll) Quicksilver also seem like good picks because there were pretty prominent in movies and are otherwise very memorable

I love Gambit but I think him not really being in much notable media since the 90's really hurts him. I actually do remember the arguments from the MvC3 board where people wanting Gambit and Venom in MvC3 would get in huge arguments with people over them being "stuck in the 90's".
Born to lose, live to win!
Crawler has Arcade game, Gambit has 90s cartoon, Rogue has 2000s cartoon and Movie

Rogue too iconic for 9th anyways. Her 97 booty alone is arguably more iconic than some of the actual X-Men even tbh
Venom is and has been the most iconic Spider-Man villain since the 90s

As someone basically completely disconnected from this franchise, I thought of the characters in this order:
Wolverine
Nightcrawler
Cyclops
Magneto
Rogue
Storm
X

And that was all I could come up with.

After clicking on the topic, I recognized most of the names mentioned but not Beast, Colossus, Iceman or Scarlet Witch. Voted for Rogue.

I think you can still argue Oct or Goblin because of the idea that Venom is more of a antihero than a villain and those two have more movie relevance

actually number 4 for this could be fun

Yeah, I think it's debatable because those are the clear top 3, in my opinion.
