The ending was improved in a post-launch patch a few months later. It's still not incredible, but it's not really disappointing (to me at least).
The endings are also pretty similar to each other, so it's not one of those games where it's worth getting the other endings later. Just stick with what you pick.
Definitely a worthwhile experience IMO.
