Which is something I don't understand because both them and Coke use the same "Zero Sugar" branding. And often in stores when Coke products go on sale Dr Pepper is right there with the same deal.

Like they own RC Cola as well, but it's never on the same deals as RC Cola and rather on the same deals as Coke.

I wonder if it's a local bottling plant thing (But that wouldn't solve the 'zero sugar' thing...)

Yes, Dr. Pepper is officially its own thing. It's almost always found in places where you can get Coke products, but you often can get it in places that sell Pepsi products, too (thankfully, because I don't like most Pepsi products).
