I hope the war list doesn't end up too 'samey'. It's important to pick a variety of countries, decades, and scenarios, or else you end up with a bunch of Americanized 'war hero overcomes the odds' and 'war is bad' in every single movie, which would get repetitive if you are marathonning them. I know you are aiming for all the most famous ones, but all the most famous will end up repetitive. There are still a ton of famous films that fit the category.

Some that were only mentioned once or not at all that would freshen up a list include:

The General (1926) - One of the most famous silent films of all time, featuring the biggest star of the era. The budget was huge, and it was a mix of genres.
All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) - The most famous straight up war film for many many years after its release.
The Great Dictator (1940) - Charlie Chaplin comedy about war.
The Best Years of Our Lives (1946) - One of the most famous civilian life war films.
Stalag 17 (1953) - One of the most known POW films. Directed by legend Billy Wilder.
Paths of Glory (1957) - One of Kubrick's movies, about scapegoats during war.
Judgment at Nuremberg (1961) - Courtroom war drama.
The Great Escape (1963) - The iconic POW film.
The Battle of Algiers (1966) - One of the most well received foreign language war films. Set in a north African war setting.
MASH (1970) - The movie that started one of the most successful TV shows.
Johnny Got His Gun (1971) - A guy who wakes up after getting shelled with no arms, legs, eyes, tongue, or hearing. It inspired Metallica's One.
Das Boot (1981) - Claustrophobic German submarine film.
Come and See (1985) - One of the most famous foreign war films of all time. Soviet setting.
When the Wind Blows (1986) - Animated film about an old couple attempting to survive the potential for a nuclear war.
Men Behind the Sun (1988) - One of the most infamous exploitation films. About medical experiments on prisoners.
Incendies (2010) - More skewed toward drama, it's still a war film, and the movie that put Denis Villeneuve on the map.
Quo Vadis, Aida? (2020) - About the often overlooked Bosnia war in the 1990s, and the UN's notorious fuckups.

It also depends on what are you aiming for with "war movies". Does it actually require them to all be about soldiers marching into a fight? Or can war movie be about civilians dealing with wartime without actually fighting? I think seeing all sides of a war can make it more interesting.
Bells, bells, bells!
Is there many war is good movies out there?

Rambo? Lol

When I think war movie, I think giving a little glimpse into what war or the time was. 300 despite being very comicy obviously is well based a lot on sparta ways.

One movie that might fit what you are looking for could be A Few Good Men.

Yeah this is a big reason I included Stripes and Good Morning Vietnam in mine. Some comedies could lighten the mood a bit. I also really like Corrik's choices of Alexander, Kingdoms of Heaven and Troy. Since they focus on older wars and give us some unique settings.

A Few Good Men would probably fit better into a list based on the legal system/trials. Though such a list would probably be kind of niche and not get many participants.
The only certain death in the universe is Mother Hitton's Littul Kittons.

So

I was going to say no because I spent a while on the crime lists limiting them down to what they are

BUT I looked that up and man does that seem like a good fit. Literally referred to as the "Japanese Godfather" on Wikipedia

I might need to think about it, but also wouldn't be opposed to it in any other list either
It's also from Kinji Fukasaku, who go on to direct Battle Royale 27 years later. The man had a long, amazing career.

The Reader stinks but yes it counts

Takashi Miike's Ace Attorney (Phoenix Wright) film would be really fun

It was a best picture nominee dude.

I used to watch all the best picture nominees every year. Until I realized... they usually are terrible and stopped lol. What kind of filth is this.

In a year of 10, I would say BP nominees are usually about 3-4 great and another 2-3 are at least pretty good. The Reader engages in pedophilia without a proper examination of it, and even beyond that obvious problem is dull. It was a classic example of Harvey Weinstein ramming through a mediocre to lousy movie into major spots at the Oscars (see: The Cider House Rules, Il Postino, Chocolat, etc.)

Edited the crime lists to fit in Battles Without Honor and Humanity. Moved You Were Never Really Here to Disorganized Crime, moved Hot Fuzz to Mystery, and then got rid of Murder By Death

Are you going by the poll results because I don't think organized crime is gonna win?

Not positive yet tbh. I kinda wanted to throw the poll there to see if there was one that was significantly more favored than others, but moreso just wanted to get an idea if there was strong feelings one way or the other. The more I thought about it the more I kinda wanted to start with Organized Crime because I feel like that's really the go-to frame for the traditional "crime" film.

Not opposed to possibly starting with Mystery but idk yet.

It is. Donald Sutherland is hilarious in it, but overall the movie kinda drags.

Holy shit someone's seen it.....get it together A24
azuarc wasn't even home. he was playing Magic the Gathering at his buddy's store, which is extremely easy to verify
A Midsummer night's bump

I'm celebrating by watching the original Midsommar: The Wicker Man - a must if we ever do 70s horror

Also Midsommar fun fact that maybe other people noticed: In Dani's 'nightmare' scene, you can almost immediately tell she's dreaming because it is impossibly dark outside
