Im also in team this sounds bad but I havent followed One Piece for a very long time.
I will say this arc has had a lot of foreshadowing for it. It just feels like it could be something he came up with when he started writing Wano.
Similar to how Vivi's arc was created because he realized her character looked like a princess with her hair down while writing reverse mountain.
I am hoping that is not the case and this was the plan since at least Marineford.
