Well I don't think anybody really looked forward to it besides me (I don't even remember seeing it in SHINE poll this month but maybe I am wrong)
Anyway
Currently sitting on 87 on Metacritic after 39 reviews which is very nice

Anyone else planning to get this?

At what I assume is the second major boss unless I've missed something, game has been really good so far. Having to figure out the puzzles within the puzzles in the guidebook is really clever.
Okay this game has a very standard Zelda problem. You get a certain very common item and the game becomes over-reliant on utilizing that item as much as possible.

this game has a sort of Outer Wilds quality to it which is pretty neat

like I just learned something that lets me open a bunch of weird doors I saw, that theoretically I could have done from the start of the game if Id just known about it.

felt cool

i hadn't heard about it until someone here mentioned it 2 days ago

i don't hate the isometric art style but it isn't really my thing either. it looks really good overall though so i'm sure i can get past it.
Tunic is extremely cool, especially the instruction manual. the bosses might be too much though, and kinda ruin the chill sense of exploration and discovery. I somehow managed to beat the siege engine today and I'm still trying to decide if that was an exhilarating fight or if I was just that excited it was over. (I think I'm missing an item, but everyone is probably missing an item.)

I've beaten 3 bosses now and honestly, they are kind of easy. Siege Engine was the toughest of the 3 but once you realize he literally cant hit you hes not very scary.

you must be better at the game than I am. I haven't found the game overall to be very hard but those bosses are brutal. I wish this game was less dark souls-y on the combat side but moreso on the exploration side.
xyzzy
Yeah I kicked Siege Engines ass too.
Scavenger Boss is the one I had a lot of trouble with. Got kind of lucky the time I actually beat it.

Librarian was also pretty tough.

Ive found the hookshot magic to be very useful in a lot of fights to just stun a dude and let you get some hits in.

I don't have that one yet. I do have some kind of dagger but it hasn't been very helpful against bosses
xyzzy
If you beat Siege Engine you should probably be seeking out the hookshot next. I dont know the intended order of stuff, but I got it before I even did that fight.

the ice dagger thing hasnt seemed very useful to me either

When I first got it I used it for free hits because it was all the magic I had.

Once I had other things I haven't felt like it was worth casting for the cost.

Yeah I agree with all of this a lot. The instruction manual stuff is what's putting it above every other LTTP-style game, for me. It's just so adorable, and gives the right level of hints, without telling you what to do.

But I was not into that siege engine boss. I dunno how you're supposed to do it, but my way was very very tedious. And I wasn't turtling or anything, I was up in there.

I can tell you that it seems to throw out adds when you have less than 100% magic, so don't cast magic.

I just got under it, I think. There was a back weak point to attack, so I attacked it a bunch and the boss had trouble hitting me at all

ahhh I bet that's how they let you replenish your magic huh, nice. yeah, didn't find magic too useful in that fight anyways.

just made it to the librarian. my first take was that it was a lot easier than the siege engine, but I keep running out of life about halfway through.

I looked up a video and there's some kind of wand that I don't have, and that would be extremely helpful since my only way to attack him from a distance is the hookshot and that's going pretty miserably.

He actually has several attacks that bring him into melee range. He breaks out of Hookshot and counters too fast to make it worth.

So I mostly just sworded him. There is a Wand but it isn't exactly high damage.
"First thing that crosses my mind: I didn't get any GameFAQs Karma yesterday." Math Murderer after getting his appendix removed.
yeah he does. they're just dangerous and his moves are hard to read (for me, anyway). sometimes I think I'm getting the quick strike and then he does the slow beam attack, but i've already dodge rolled and eat the damage. I'm just bad so far.
xyzzy
I think I wanded that dude pretty aggressively. Its not high damage, but you potentially get a lot of shots, + he has adds that drop mana

and then also sometimes he did a move that was like a lighting sword plunge that was super easy to avoid and left him vulnerable, so I would sword him then

I felt like I was supposed to get an item to stop my HP from dropping in this area but I have no idea and i forced my way through. The sound was certainly aggravating.
"First thing that crosses my mind: I didn't get any GameFAQs Karma yesterday." Math Murderer after getting his appendix removed.
I have no idea if that boss was supposed to be next as the difficulty spike was pretty significant, but I got him down once I realized I'd been neglecting a very basic mechanic of the game.

I played this for about 2 hours or so. I hit the eastern "bell" and then headed west, and have apparenlty tried every route except the correct one in an attempt to get over to the western "bell" but just can not get there. Growing tired of resetting the area and fighting my way through the same stuff time and time again, I decided to take a break. Maybe it'll be easier if/when I pick it up next time.

I think I missed an item because the tall dudes with spears seem unbeatable atm.

I had pretty good luck throwing the dynamite sticks at them, and even managed to take care of the one on the narrow walkway with them, but they're pretty much impossible for me without those.

i think the first page of the instruction manual gives you a hint on how to progress here? but maybe i'm misunderstanding where you're stuck. you shouldn't need to be resetting the area so much.

Yeah you know I'm not sure I actually like the game at all from this point on.

I liked the game a good bit when it was full of exploration and tough but not punishing combat with the clever "you didnt realize this til we gave you instructions" type of learning.

But it drops that to bad "Did you remember this?" re-exploration and HP sponge bosses. I'm not sure I can make the world revert either because this really feels like a final boss that I am pounding my face into.

Yeah if they got away it felt like almost certain death.

I eventually got by that area by using a path that didn't aggro any of them.
I just learned where they were and got on top of them. if they got away, I wanded them

just saw credits! pretty sure I'll keep playing, and try to 100% it. late game puzzles are pretty fun.

I love this game and it's probly in my top 50 or so, but yeah, it's gonna be hard to recommend to people, with some of these bosses in it.

two of them were insanely difficult for me (siege engine, and final boss), although the others were fine. although, I see other people have a different set of bosses they had trouble with.

I'm thinking the bosses are tuned in such a way, that you really need exactly the correct strategy for that specific boss. the problem is, it's not obvious why other strategies aren't working. so you just kinda have to get lucky and hope you stumble upon a tactic that works?
