Turns out the game, which was released a year ago on Epic, has a $60 price tag and doesn't have any discount.

To add insult to injury, it's currently 50% off on Humble Store for a Epic serial key.
So that means if someone wants to buy Hitman 3 on Steam...he has to pay double the price of if he bought it on Epic :|

And just a month ago it was possible to get it for $20 on the Epic Winter sale with the Epic Coupon

So what exactly is being loyal to Steam good for?

having any loyalty whatsoever to an online marketplace run by a billion dollar corporation that doesn't care about you is completely asinine

I've been buying stuff on EGS more lately bc of the $10 coupons during sales. There's no way that lasts forever tho, at which point I'm probably defaulting back to Steam.

If you wait long enough it'll be cheap on Steam too. Then you can support a platform that allows user reviews, has a discussion forum, doesn't create artificial exclusivity on the PC market, etc

Is there any connectivity between the titles? Like save file bonuses that are carried over from game to game?

Because I have 1 and 2 on Steam, but hell yeah I'll grab the third on Epic to save money.
Okay, I rolled a 14. What's that mean? Hsu

This and unlockables, but I believe there is a way to transfer between platforms.

Also general echoing of the sentiment of lol to anyone who is loyal to steam or any other platform. The only relevant thing steam has over its competitors is family sharing at this point. EGS generally has the best deals during sales for what it has despite a few missing features (And also gives out a ton of free games). Game Pass PC is just amazing in general though.
DPOblivion beat us all.
I buy games on whichever platform has the best deal but it is a little annoying that Epic doesn't have any achievements.

I'm not someone who chases achievements but I do like getting 100% for games that I'm really enjoying. Without achievements there's not much reason for me to keep playing a game I'm enjoying once it's done.

I use Steam Link a ton but then I found out you can launch Epic stuff through Steam for Steam Link so now I just go wherever the best sale is.

Eh. They offer free refunds on any game with no questions asked, constantly put things on sale for >50% of their price, and let me use family sharing to access hundreds of games I'd otherwise have to buy.

My loyalty is just practical - I'm showing support for their business practices which benefit me.

Also can I just say that games being cheaper on Steam was never a reason for 'Steam loyalty' because I don't think it's ever been true. Epic's whole business plan is to throw discounts and free games at people to build a userbase.

There are reasons for preferring Steam over Epic, even if they seem silly to others who don't care. And I don't mean blind loyalty to a faceless corporation. Some people don't want to support artificial exclusivity. Some want to play on the client with more features. Some don't want to support Tencent. Sometimes it's as simple as already owning a bunch of games on Steam and not wanting to split their library. If one game being cheaper on EGS is enough to shake your 'Steam loyalty' then you probably don't care about any of that, though.

I mean, Epic got in trouble with some developers during their first sale for deeply discounting games without permission. Steam has plenty of sales and cheap games too but it's not like Epic has a reputation as being way more expensive. If you don't care for any other reason then by all means buy stuff on the cheaper store.
